My car makes a Lil taping noise Its not the injectors no the cams. I can only get it to do it some times. Its really really faint, I can only tell because I know my car soo soo well. but only some times under 1200 rpm kinda with the clutch half way in I can Kinda feel it in the peddle. I talked to the engine builder at my job and he said with out hearing it, it could be a bearing starting to go bad. So being the 7m lover that I am I went through my oil change process. As usual there was no metal In the oil or any thing. {I change my oil like every 1500 to 2000 miles. When I do I strain it through a coffee filter and let it run over a very clean magnet to pick up any metal In the oil.} I found nothing refilled with 5.5 qts basic oil {no synth. I don't run synth} Anybody got any ideas? I think I just thought I herd something one day then It became real.

Are you sure it's not trans related? You said that you can feel it in the clutch pedal, so it's possible that it's one of the bearings down there.

If you're able to reproduce the sound, get a video up.

By the way bearing material is non ferrous so will not stick to a magnet. Best to cut your filter open and inspect it. Changing oil every 1500 miles is not needed modern oils are good for 6000+ miles if you need to change something change your filter every 3000 miles.

By modern I'm guessing you mean synthetic. The OP stated that he used conventional oil, as in non-synthetic.

Sometimes when your throwout bearing or pilot bearing is getting worn, you'll hear/feel a ticking/vibration when the clutch is disengaged or partially engaged, but it goes away when you fully engage the clutch pedal.

A good modern conventional oil is good for 5000 miles on a single filter. A Group IV/V synthetic and some Group III synthetic branded oils are good for 8000 miles easy (or longer) with a filter change at 4K.

BTW - the coffee filter trick will show big chunks of debris, but it does not tell you what is really going on with the oil. You have to do analysis to get add pack depletion and wear metals.

seems kind of against the tide if the clutch is involved in regards to rk, unless your thrust bearings are gone...

I know my valves make noise due to loose specs, has a distinct tap/rattle as you get into the gas at the low rpms right off idle or a bit above.
