Yes, one thing that germany does that i wish the US would do is, teach more about the USA's Fcukups, germany teaches the young very well about WWI, and WWII because they dont want the youth to repeat it. here in the USA, schools skim on stuff and thats about, its sad but true. US history is a lot about WWII and how we whooped ass, thats about it.

Good luck shaking your stereotype.

I'm a Jew and I don't hate any of you. We even hosted a German HS exchange student when we lived in Kansas City.

I guess growing up a stereotype allows you to realize that although stereotypes are based from somewhere, not all of any race/religion/nationality falls into any one category.

You've almost convinced me to post a 'Jewish History, myths and truth' thread, but I'm much too lazy for that.

It's not just the last 2000. We were slaves in Egypt long before Christianity ever existed.

A lot of people don't know that the Jewish(Hebrew) Calendar has been around over 5700 years. And we were a nomadic tribe for quite some time before the calendar, which is what makes Judaism a race as well as a religion.

I don't know the exact years(hold while I go google them):

Chinese Calendar: 4704 = 2006 AD
Hebrew Calendar: 5766 = 2006 AD

Hebrew calendar predates the Chinese by just over 1000 years(and a lot can happen in that time span).

Did you know it was the Jews that built the Great Pyramids in Egypt?
Yes the Egyptians drew up the blueprints and oversaw construction, but the Jewish slaves were the one's whose blood, sweat, and tears went into lifting all of those rocks into place.

I'll stop with the Jewish history 101 in this thread, before getting to Moses, the plagues, the slaying of the first born, and the Chanuka 'miracle oil'(oil that was supposed to last for hours ended up lasting 8 days to light the caves the Jews were hiding in while at war).

Haven't seen the movie, so I couldn't tell you how they tried to portray it, but I can tell you what found out watching 'History Chanell', reading books, and learning in Hebrew School(like Sunday school) at a young age(5-12).

Jesus was Jewish. Christianity sprouted from the Jews who believed that he(Jesus) is the Messiah. And to this day the perversion that the Jews killed him is still beyond my grasp.
If any Jew had a part to play in his death, it was those in league with the Romans, not the whole of Judaism.
Just like WWII causing everyone to think that all Germans hate Jews/Gays/Blacks...

BTW, I found a great site that has the whole 'Old Testament' online, your OT is our Bible. http://www.bible.ort.org/ Most people are shocked to find out that Judaism is almost 100% Christianity without the coming of Christ(we're still waiting on him).

yeah, that is what confused me too.... he was a jew and got tortured and killed by his own people.... that is pretty fucked.

D34 (and or aaron): you know why christians followed him? i mean, he was a jew and christianity always had a problem with them, so why did some follow jesus?

but isnt christianity also talking about heaven and a light at the end of a tunnel? or did they get it from the jewish religion more or less?

I remember seeing something on tv.... they found an ancient christian church in the middle east... israel maybe. so they all made a big deal out of it, cos over there they dont believe in christianity
but now from what you guys told me... it kinda makes sense, if christianity took quite a few things from judaism. (or did the jews take it from the christians... no...)
so no real big deal if there is a christian church in israel then, imo.

Most of the early followers of Jesus were Jews who thought that he was the Messiah(personally I'm open minded about it, but have enough doubts to keep me a Jew).

The biggest link that should point people to the fact that Christianity is a continuation of Judaism is the Bible.

Q: Where did the Christian Bible come from?

A: The Old Testament was updated to include the life of Jesus and his disciples.

The reason that Christians are considered 'gentiles' is purely based on the fact that they no longer belong to the same race as the Jews. Any of the Hebrew race that was in Christianity's start, is so subdued after 2000 years of mixing with other tribes. Which is why most Jews 'look' Jewish(I have curly black hair, wear glasses, and have a darker skin tone almost like a year-round tan that gets darker in the summer).

Any Christian who states that Judaism isn't where Christianity came from needs to do some serious reading. Yes they took the idea and ran with it so to speak, but it's roots were founded in Judaism. Jesus preached Jewish ideals.

You posted while I was typing, but if you read through the Old Testament the fact that Christianity sprouted from Judaism is mindnumbingly(sp?) clear.

In fact, upon finding that site I plan on using it to teach my fiance this information.

^^ the christian religion is comprised of many, many religions, all the stories in the book, basicly come from other stories in other riligions. if you dont believe me, look at the greek's they had a story that was about people who wanted to reach the gods so they built a tower, hmm sounds a bit like the story of the tower of babel. judaism is one of the first major religions, there are plenty of other small religions that they are built off of im sure.

religion comes about when man is afraid of the big question "why are we here" it all boils down to this, regardless of what a religion says, everyone is searching for the same answer.

Funny that you mention Babel(Babylon). The Old Testaments version does do a lot to mention other peoples in the land and where they came from(which tribe descended from which lineage). The OT almost reads like a 'history of the world' in many places.
Many scholars came together to create it and I'm sure they tried to incorporate every major tribe's individual history into it, trying to trace it all back as far as possible. Like going over and over different versions of the same events to figure out what really happened.

The thing I was shocked at upon reading the OT in depth was how long many of the key people lived(Adam and many others lived well over 900 years).
