First of all, I just wanted to start a thread asking a few questions. I've read that the stock suspension is going to be better for my car than my Tein coilovers in the rear. How many of you agree with this statement?

I would also like to know who's had experience with different LSD's while racing? Last year I had the 3.73's in my car. Yesterday I switched to a 4.10lsd for the racing at Texas in march. The car felt slower to me. It pulled really hard in fourth, but the rest of the gears were just kinda tame. Is this due to the load that it gets in fourth and not in the first three gears? Is this going to slow my quarter mile times down? I feel like I'll get out of the whole quicker, but then I may end up being slower overall. Any opinions or tested results would be awesome.

Before the drive to Texas in march. I plan on respraying my car again.......it's actually the third time I've painted in since I've owned it. This time I'm going to paint it myself with the help of a local supra owner that happens to be a painter. I"m removing the mouldings and lights and whatever else I can get to unfasten from the car.
I've got to have my front bumper fixed where I've ran up on a few curbs while trying to park it. The car sits wayyy too low in the front and hits everything. I'll take it off tomorrow and drop it off for fixing at Keylan's house. His dad is the one that fixed the totaled yellow MKIV on here. Topnotch2jz I think is his screen name.

I also dropped off my R154 today to be rebuilt so that it will hopefully hold up to the abuse I put on it while racing in march. I"ll be towing my car to Texas this year and hopefully dynoing it and racing. I plan on making about 650 rwhp and I hope to run some pretty good times. At the moment, I don't know what that is though. I've never ran anything faster than a 12.08 @ 119mph in the quarter. I"m making over a hundred more horses at the moment though than what I was making when I ran that time.
Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Jay

I'll make sure to post up some before, during, and after pictures of my car.

Was the boost the same as before in all gears? Get some slicks as well if you want to go fast. (dont remember if you had any last year).

Maybe we'll find each other in mexico durring tx2k10 and have a little fun run.. I wont much of a match unless I get some nitrous, but would be fun none the less.

For drag racing yes the stock shock will be better than coilovers. Remember, for drag racing you want the car to squat and the coilovers are too stiff unless you get drag racing coilovers. You run a 4.10 LSD? Did you convert it from a TorSen to a regular LSD?

As for the feeling of being slower, maybe it's because the gears aren't as tall.

Justin, I hope to make it out to the Mexico run this year. I didn't last year because my wideband shot it's wad on me, and I was scared not knowing the AFR's. I'll see you there.
I also have the Mickey Thompson ET streets. Their not quite drag tires, but they hook pretty good. I may end up getting something sticker, but I'll have to see how much monies I has left.......

Abe, I don't know exactly what the LSD is. I was told it was a 4.30. I haven't opened it up to count the teeth on the gear or anything though. I will definately swap the stock shocks back in before I go to Texas this year. Is this a bad gear to run for my car at my horsepower? Should I put the 3.73's back in or look for a 3.91 gear? Thanks.

Kristel, thanks for the nice, firm, bouncy boobies..........you really know how to make me feel all warm and oooooohhhhhh, what a mess, I just made......:biglaugh:

You probably have a 4.30 LSD then. The 4.10 TorSen's are known to grenade. For your power level I'd go with either the 3.91. I will be going with the 3.91 myself since i currently have the 4.30 LSD and at 500+ RWHP a 4.30 becomes more useless than good. At our power level you want the taller gears that the 3.91 offers so that you can stay in gears a little longer. With the 4.30 the gears are just too short and you're having to change gears more often. By having taller gears, you're compromising accelleration with times spent in each gear. For lower powered Supra's, I'd go with shorter gears since this doesn't affect them as much. Remember, everytime you shift you're not accellerating.

While in Texas last year, I was shiftin into fourth right before the finish line. It was killing me, but I couldn't make it that extra fifty feet or so without shifting. I was almost crossing the line while shifting each time. I trapped anywhere from 116-122 last year. I have a 3.91 gear in the shed I think. I'll get it out and rebuild it and put it in. I like the way the car drives with them anyways. I should be in fourth a little quicker and hopefully will be pulling across the line instead of coasting.

Justin, waiting is a bitch. I wish I'd went with the AEM instead of the stinger since I'd be able to control knock.

Today I removed all of my mouldings and also the tail lights. I filled in about ten pin holes or rock chips. I also did a bit more wet sanding. I should be ready for primer pretty soon, but I haven't located a painting booth yet. I may end up having to paint it in a friends garage. Any suggestions?

Jay,

If you are setting the car up for drag racing (i.e. coilovers vs stock suspension), why aren't you going automatic? I bet you would drop into the high 10's or low 11's.

I would if I was setting it up soley for drag racing. I still drive my car around all the time. I just happen to be going to Texas in March and racing. I also have too much money invested in my Carbonetics triple disc and I'm also having my r154 rebuilt. I can't just throw that stuff away and go automatic. If I was single, I could, but I'm not so I can't.

I'd also like to have a four speed when and if I go auto. I don't like the gear ratio of the th350.

So before with the 3.73 you trapped at the top of fourth and were considering shifting to fifth? With the 4.30 and the same size tire this means a shift to fifth is necessary. I would find out what size tire you need to run to stay in fourth Either with the 4.30 or the 3.73. With the stock rear suspension you will find a lot of extra room in the rear for a taller slick but I don't know if you have the room for a tall enough tire. Sounds like the 3.91 is the best plan. You can run a taller, softer side walled slick and choose the tire height to a specific rpm at the trap.

sounds like he was shifting into 4th at the line not 5th.

Yea, 1jz reving to like 7500 will throw 4th at ~ 120mph.

When I drove my buddies car I short shifted 3rd iirc (373s, 26" tire), shifted ~ 7k giving a couple hundred feet in 4th.. trapping 119.

Remember with 650whp you should trap 130-135mph, so make sure you have the gearing for that. I'd leave the 373s.
