A few alternator questions...

I got my Soarer 1JZ about a week ago and noticed the alternator didn't come with a harness/connector or positive battery lead. And unfortunately it's the flat oval-shaped style connector:

Is it possible, using spacers and the 1J pulley, to use my 80 amp 7M alternator and just extend the 7M connector and battery cable under the radiator support? Or is it possible to buy an SC300 or MkIV alternator from a parts store that has the round 7M style plug? Also, if I run the wires from the old alt plug right to the 1J alt, do I still have to wire them into EB1/EB2?

its not possible to use the 7M alt as its a 5-rib belt and JZ's are 6-rib

if you extend the stock plug from the fusebox to the new alt, thats all you have to do, no other connections.

if you are interested i have a working early style soarer alternator sitting around the attic that i could sell you pretty cheap. it has the proper plug in the back that you would need.

Couldn't he swap on a different pulley, such as the Driftmotion alternator pulley?

If you want a quick fix, why not just go to the junkyard and grab the correct connector from any other Toyota that has it, and splice it in?

Jeff

That's what im doing with my 90's round plug and 88 harness. : p

Did it with the previous 7m swap, and the 2jz swap. Works like a charm. : p
