1. Replaced the HG with e-gay oem and ARP studs in January. All was good up until the end of May when the car was showing signs of another BHG. So today I finally got the head off and what do I find? No blown headgasket. BUT I used the torque wrench to remove the studs and the studs between 5 and 6 as well as one of the studs beside them were loose in comparison to all the others.
Could this be my BHG?

2. I forgot it... I'll edit this when I remember.
EDIT: Yeah, So take a look at my valves and tell me what you think...
First two are white looking. Second two look good. Third group of two look like BHG/wet.
Whats the white-ness?
PS: All spark plugs look good.

You're right, Ian. I didn't retorque it and that is hopefully the reason it blew...

A brand new OEM one from Champion Toyota is now tightened down to 85 ft lbs with ARP studs. After 3-5 heat cycles I'll for sure go back in and retorque it. Then I'll do it after 500 miles.

First of all, throw that OEM Ebay HG away and pick up a Cometic.

no no no and NO.....

Done correctly a composite will be fine.

Don't incorrectly a MHG will fail within days.

Unless Ben is willing to pull the motor and have it surfaced along with the head a MHG is the wrong recommendation.

Check that the head is still flat around there Ben :(

You think it warped maybe?
Ok here's some overall specs:
-Last time I did the headgasket was around ~2000miles ago.
-Went with an Ebay HG and ARP studs.
-Sent the head out to get cleaned and checked for flatness.
-No retorque.

When the HG blew again:
-It didn't over heat AT ALL. I got to it wayyy before that.
-White smoke out the back.
-Goo on the oil cap.
-Using up coolant
-Temp gauge fluctuating (BUT not to the point of overheating)

Degree... I don't even wanna get into that discussion/debate in this thread. The turbo motor I'm building will be getting a MHG and ARPs though...

Thought so. IJ's right about the composite especially since he would have to pull and resurface everything. And yes check the head, you don't want to be doing it again soon.

Just to be on the safe side, wouldn't be too much to take it and get it "cleaned up" at the shop as long as it isn't too bad.

...so its bad if I already put the new HG in and its torqued down already.

If the head is warped there then what? It's gonna BHG again?(duh) Even if the ARP's are torqued to the right spec this time and retorqued? Could they possibly straighten the head back out if needed? (Dumb question probably...)

Having a Supra as your only car is FTL. ... I need to start saving for a daily driver.

EDIT: Contrary to what you guys are saying, I'm gonna have to just put the motor back together at the moment. I really wish I had another week to send the head off to the machine shop but I don't.

If it blows again soon than ya'll can yell "I told you so!!".

I need to get this turbo motor together, I guess...

Haha. Yeah I guess it does. The valves all look ok then?

I think IJ peaced out because I'm not taking the head back off and taking it a machine shop...
Oh well, I don't blame him.

they just look steam cleaned.....but knowbody can tell you the valves are fine just by the way they look in that pic... I'm sure they are fine but should have had the head inspected but shit in one hand and want in the other and see which one fills first LOL.

shit in one hand and want in the other? I don't get it. Spelling mistake?

EDIT:
Are ya'll saying the head is probably warped? Or just could be warped. I don't want to put everything together and then ya'll say it's probably/definitely warped....

I interpreted what everyone said as a "maybe" like "probably not, but maybe". Meh, I'm putting it all together anyways. If it blows when I start it then I learned something... ...the hard way.

70% of the time, they are warped everytime LOL .....oh.....not funny

Aluminum inline 6 heads will usually warp even if nothing is wrong....heat is such a douche.

what we are saying is take the head back off and have it inspected by a machinist for peace of mind...if its warped have it decked....if its flat then toss the machinist $10 for his time and put the head back on....you had way to many BHG's to cut corners here LOL!

Its already put together though.

Can I take the head back off if I already torqued the HG down?
I already put mad stuff back on. Like fuel, cams, vacuum lines, etc.
MOTHERFU..... Wooo I love being told 10 hrs. after I started working on it that all the stuff I just did needs to be taken back off.
I don't have time ( OR PATIENCE) to do everything again.

For real though, I'm finally beginning to realize that I'm too young to have a supra. No money, no daily driver, no time...
...I need my Jeep back.

Pull the head, take it and get it checked. I'd be seriously concerned about it having issues between 4, 5, and 6.
I think I read somewhere that you should go through the torque process three times with studs(torque them, loosen one turn, torque again, etc.), to ensure preload, but that could have been for rods. Maybe someone with more experience with them will fill in what I'm missing...

Did that thankfully...

...oh wait, doesn't matter I have to take all that back off. :rant2:
