Its been converted, previous owner spent $1000 or so on it looking at the receipts, when I bought the car a year ago she just had all the work done to it.. but bought a used condenser from a junkyard, which she said leaks.

So.. do replace the condenser and have the system dye tested? or do I just leave it alone and pull the belt off the compressor.

I spent some money retrofitting mine, including a new expansion valve, dryer, compressor, etc. If you want a/c on those hot days, that's what it comes down to. I want my car to go fast and work with all stock options, so I fixed mine. If you can live without it, pull all the assoc. hardware and you'll save yourself some weight. gl.

I finally just removed mine and everything relating to it since I had not used it at all in like 5 years.

It boiled down to this.....If it's so nice I need the A/C I take the roof off, I prefer that anyways. And if it's not nice enough for roof offing then I don't need the A/C.

What do you guys think the targa top is for?!
Take the a/c out ya big girl.

J/k, idk i took my a/c out, never really used it and when
i did try to use it, the damn thing was so weak there was no point.
so i said fuck it and took it out and just rode with my roof off all summer
and let me tell you i was a hell of a lot cooler then i was waiting
for my weak ass a/c to cool down my car...

thats just my 2 cents though.

Guy picks up girl in the supra. Nice car girl says. Guy feel lucky. Its kinda hot girl says. Guy tells girl the AC doesn't work. Girl is starting to feel sweaty and sticky. Makeup is running. Hair is getting messy from open window. Girl not in mood now. Girl go home alone. Guy go home too Mary Palm and her five sisters.

with AC the key is clean. Make sure that all the components are internally clean, just a little dirt can ruin the compressor, get some a/c flush stuff and flush everything, use a vac pump you can rent free from autozone and evacuate the system for a an hour or so before putting any freon/r134 in. replace condenser/dryer at a minimum

couldnt live with out it in texas. Air temps were 95 F today, sitting in traffic the heat from the ground and the cars hit 120F coming through the window with no ac. FUCK THAT. Its not even our hot season yet....

If you dont use it, toss it. I view it as a creature comfort. Mines not a weekend car or track car so i like what toyota originally installed. :)

The guys from Calgary and Minnesota say dump it. The guys from Cali, Hawaii, and Texas say keep it. Must be a message in there somewhere ;)

It's your choice of course. I keep mine because:

1) Comfort.

2) I take pride in having everything on my car work perfectly.

3) I invested in the tools and knowledge to keep it running.

4) I paid for it.

I have dark blue leather too, taking the targa off makes it hotter inside the car, driving with it off in the beating sun is annoying, I usually only take it off at night. It gets hot up here from late May-late September, last week it was up in the 95-100F range all week long, today it was 85ish.

Hmm.. Im going to call around and see if I can find a new condenser for cheap, what else should I replace? stupid a/c.

anything thats not working. while your in there might as well change all the little o-rings where everything meets together so you know for sure you dont have any leaks.

I use mine more in the winter than the summer. SO nice to have the fog on the inside windows vanish in SECONDS.

Plus, if you're ever going to drive to Supras Invade Las Vegas with us, you'll want it, if only to taunt those without it. Doing 130 mph across the desert in 100F+ with the windows up and the AC on full is awesome. (Note that if you don't have it, you'll be a tauntee, instead of a taunter. Choose wisely.)

Taking the top off in the desert in the heat of the day is just asking for an expensive hospital visit while they pump you back full of fluids and treat your extreme sunburn. Furthermore, if you have long hair - or your ladyfriend does - it ALWAYS ends up in your mouth. Don't give the ladies any excuses to cut their hair, dammit, the world needs more long haired beauty, not less.

LOL, jetlock is correct.....I need my AC here in Hawaii. Today was 87, but the humidity sucks and no trade winds. I am saving up to buy a parallel flow AC condenser to retrofit my aging 87.
