Without getting technical, and laying it plain and simple...

If you are sitting at a stop light for 1 minute, the temperature outside is 100* F, and you have the AC blowing,

Ho-ly Crap! You are sucking the life out of your motor.;) <----(Bye Bye, Gas.)

Now if you are driving on the interstate w/ your AC blowing, then it's not as bad at all because your engine is getting direct cool air. Hope that gives you an idea.

I don't have AC in my car. Never have. I just put my windows down, stick my arm out, and enjoy it. :) I HATE driving with my window's up...Makes me feel all closed up and lonely.

Not sure if the same relation holds true to our cars being nearly 20 years old. But with modern cars it is more fuel efficient to drive w/ your a/c on then w/ your windows down (hwy speeds).

LOL no when you have your windows down the air flows into your car and hits you hatch kinda like a parachute(not really but work with me guys) and creates drag on your car so your engine needs to work harder to maintain speed while if you only use AC it's still a strain on the engine just not as great as the air if you had your windows open

I only use my a/c when its super hot outside.Cruising 70-75 on the highway in my n/a with air on uses the same amout of gas as if i was doing 85-90 with the windows down.Thats not including the few ponies i lose by running it also

edit-Mythbuster also concluded windows down yeilds better milage than a/c ive seen that particular episode several times

Drag????caused by wind inside the car. Having the windows up gives the car a better aerodynamics..
