Hi everyone well today I had someone attempt to retrofit my A/C and have the system recharged .. They said they were able to successfully evap the system, but when they attempted to fill from the low side they were reading a PSI in excess of 100.. He stated that my expansion valve must be bad and or my Evaporator core possibly clogged with with rust??!

It does not make sense though because they said that they were unable to connect the high side retrofit so they just did not bother? He said it really was not needed. I really don't know much about the recharging A/C systems though I did read all 12 pages of this thread http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94095&highlight=expansion+valve when attempting to research.. My biggest concern was the fact that this guy was unable to successfully install the R134 retrofit and yet he tells me that I should buy new components for my A/C system..

What should I do? Take this guys word because he is ASE certified for auto A/C and my car is a 1956.5 MK3 or just go elsewhere for a second opinion?

Thanks.

he did it wrong. you need to have both sides connected when refilling the system or else its just going to get block by the compressor.

Oh even better... OMG. I'm just gonna take it somewhere else, or attempt to do it myself.
Yeah I guess it was running..

As far as i know, when strictly filling a system, high side doesnt even need to be connected, it is only connected for pressure reading purposes, and all the filling is done through the low side. Also, it needs to be filled with the car running and AC on.

If he couldn't attach a simple fitting....

Also, it sounds like they're using a death kit. :runaway:
