alright so i got a 60-1 trim ct26 that i have had on my car for awhile untuned with lex and 550s, Before i hit fuel cut it would hit around 18psi with my boost contoler off just monitoring pressure. Now that i have a MAFT translator on it boost hits 20psi or so. The car pulls amazing, but im worried its pushing it too far.
I have a wideband and at WOT its right at 10.20 so its got plenty of fuel in that aspect but i dont have a EGT gauge to know how hot combustion temps are getting. Is anyone running that much boost from upgraded ct on pump gas?
The motor is rebuilt with JE pistons 9:1 cr, MHG, ARP's, 550s, 3.5" GM MAF, Downpipe with elbow, 2.5" hardpipes with Air/water intercooler. Fuel system is just 255, with stock FPR right now, (car is so rich i dont see reason to play with base pressure unless i lower it to lean it out)

So to sum it up, Is 20psi on 60-1 ct too much for 93 octane? Should i port the wastegate to lower boost?

what's a dyno gonna show you?

im trying to get my hands on a EGT gauge, is there anyway to monitor the knock sensors?

well it would let you know where you knock and make sure the car runs has head room for many things..... each car is different we could have the same identical setup and when go to get tuned our settings could be way different. I may be able to run 22psi while you can only run 18psi.... get the point?

i totally understand that each car is different, and each tune is different and boost is measurement of restriction etc.. The car has a wideband in it, unfortunatly i dont have a EGT gauge so i dont know the temps, but dynos dont have there own knock sensors or anything other than a wideband to tell me whats going on.... so i dont see how that would give me a definite answer. Am i completly wrong? I get that a dyno would provide repeatability, and you may be able to hear knock better without windspeed flying down the highway.

Basically what i want to know is people that have upgraded ct26's what kinds of boost are you seeing? Because with my boost controler out of the equation it is hitting 20lbs..... I dont hear of many other people having this issue. Also the people that do have upgraded ct's with higher boost levels, are you taking timing out of it? Right now i only have the Basic MAFT so i cant do much with timing, but i could take a degree or two out of the base timing....

I can obviously port the wastegate to try to make it work more efficiently, but i dunno how much its going to take to get it below like 18lbs...

Turn the boost down... You have 9.0 compresssion pistons along with a ?? thick MHG. And you have a stock ECU that is giving you overly agressive ignition timing. I would turn it down to at least 17psi if I were you.

JE's arent stock compression? like bounty killa said, only way to know is if you get it dyno'd. They will tell you what boost level you will be able to run.
Turn it down till u get that done, or you may regret it.

As i stated above its running strickly off the wastegate actuator.. I think the open exhaust, 3.5" intake and Short 2.5" intercooler pipes with an efficient air/water intecooler is making this thing flow more air than usual...

LOL Are you really arguing against getting the car dyno'ed? You asked the question, is 20psi to much for 93 octane and I respond the only way to actually know is get the car dyno’ed, anything else is guessing. This is an expensive game to be guessing when you can know for sure what your limitations are. Its obvious you don’t have the all the right stuff to run you car safely.

What do you have to actually tune your car? You don’t even have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator which should be the first thing you have to help tune your car properly and just because the wideband you have in you car reads 10.2 at WOT does not mean its accurate you might want to have something to compare it to. There was another member who just learned the hard way about. His wideband read lower than the dyno’s wideband and a little bit later he came to realize that his wideband was off and now its rebuild time.

Psi and flow isn’t the same thing. If your system was more efficient you would make more power with less psi. If you are hitting 20+psi on the wastegate only on whatever spring you have a problem. If your car has a boost spike you will be starting a rebuild thread and then bash the 7m even though you broke it because you don’t understand some basics.

Don't get me wrong I'm not argueing that dyno's are useless, having another wideband would be nice to backup the afr's. But I only have a Maft Gen 1 so there's not much to play with but fuel.
I am leaning towards my wideband being in the ballpark since it has a new sensor and is calibrated, and the plugs are reading rich.

As far as the afpr, do most people bump down the base pressure to lean it out before adjusting airflow with Maft or safc?

And yes its hitting 20 just on the wastegate itself, I've tried 2 other actuators with same results, and its not just spiking it hits solid 18 or so fast and creeps to 20 by 5k or just after and stays there.

I'm not trying to come off as some 16 year old kid trying to blow his shit up. I can obviously go spend hundreds on Maft pro or standalone, and few hundred on dyno time, but I'm trying to see what others people are experiencing with larger CT upgraded turbos first.

Tune with fuel pressure first and then fine tune with whatever piggy back and the ct26 no matter what trim wont flow enough to max out your setup (550's and lex afm) .... Again only a dyno session will give the answer you seek. Most people run the upgraded ct25's at 17-18psi but each car is different we might both have our cars at 17psi but my car might make more or less power than yours.

Bottom line if you want an exact answer get on a Dyno

So today i found this
p1541116_1.jpg

The downpipe i have was bought from a member on this site, Somehow the flange was way oversized and was blocking the wastegate from opening more than like 1/3. I never even thought to check that because it was clearly a used part that had been on sombodys car for a long time, clearly this is a china piece. Im sure there are more of these downpipes floating around out there so if your having wierd boost issues check your shitty china downpipe flange!

Sweet that solves this whole thread, thanks for responding. Im turning this beast down! spinning RT-615's from a 90mph roll was pretty sweet feeling tho the two times that i did wot tuning. :evil2:
