89T vs Mustang 5.0

So last weekend my friend and I are coming home from a night out at the bars. I only had a beer or two since I was driving. On the way home my friend says he is hungry so we stop off at the local Wawa. I wait in the car and he goes inside.

While he is inside a late 80s early 90s mustang 5.0 pulls in next to me. He gives me the glance and looks over at my car. I know he wants to race but I hate mustangs and could really care less. Finally my friend comes out and gets in the car. We take off down the road.

We are driving on 202 which is straight for miles and has no cars out at this time. I get about 3 miles down the road and notice these headlights coming up fast in my rearview mirror. Wow, this guy wants to race bad! So right about the time he is close it is my turn off. However, my friend is egging me on and wants me to race…..why not.

I stay on 202 and he is closing in fast. I am doing about 70 and he finally blows by me going over a 100. He slows down and gets along side of me. We are going about 70 and as soon as we line up he just takes off without warning. That was a cheap move so I stay in fourth and don’t follow and accelerate but obviously am not catching.

He slows down and starts to get along side of me again. By this point I assume he is thinking his car is the shit even though we haven’t had a fair race yet. Before we line up, I downshift into third and am ready for him. I wait for him to make his move and we go at it from a 70mph roll. I take third gear all the way out and am about almost a car length ahead of him.

As soon as I hit fourth the race was over. I shut down at 110 and probably had at least 8 cars on him. We come to another stop light lined just me and him. He looks like he wants revenge but I am way past my turn off at this point. So I take a right at the light and he does a huge burnout and continues straight. Guess he was trying to intimidate me by doing a burnout. None the less mustang went down.

This was the first 5.0 I have raced, I don’t know if it was modded but it kind of seemed like I had to work to hard for the kill. I don’t really know much about them.

A stock 5.0 is comparable to a stock MK III turbo. They are a little lighter, more torque and similiar hp. If yours is modded, his probably was also.

I agree with clifftrail. If yours is modded and you didn't blow him away he had a few mods also. I've raced a handful of gts and haven't come close to losing yet. Good kill, but when it's your turn to drive, one or two may be too many. Just my two cents worth.............lol..

I was fine, I'm definitely no stupid enough to risk messing up my car driving drunk. Especially after I just rebuilt the motor.

I know you wouldn't drive while impaired, because let's face it, who want to try and find more parts to put your car back together? Keep it between the ditches.........lol

It also depends on the body style of the mustang...a notch back LX 5.0 is light as hell, while a hatch back GT, or convert is much heavier. My buddies Lx went 14.9 stock, but most GT's run mid 15's stock.

^buddy of mine HAD a foxbody stang, 5spd 5.0 w/ intake headers and exhaust w/ drag radials he ran a 13.5.. wish i had the time slips..

Thats about right the same car that went 14.9 stock now goes 13.7 with intake, exhaust , nitto nt555's
