89 supra... got problems

1UZFE SWAP DUDE!!!
Hello and Hi!
I recently purchased my supra from a local towyard for $500.
No suprizes it has some problems that need to be addressed. I started tearing into this project about a month ago, and I've had nothing but bad luck. When I bought it I already knew it had problems starting,(intermittant) but I figured it was just the factory alarm system. I got it home, and it turned over twice, and then no more.
So I found the diagram, got in under the dash only to discoverd the alarm had already been removed, and that the starter relay wire had been already grounded to bypass the alarm. I also discovered another alarm system, but it was disconnected also, so I just took it out from under the dash.
Another thing I found, was that the ignition wired had been cut at one point, and then respliced together.
I can hear the starter relay kick, but nothing happens. I think it may be the starter solenoid, but there's no easy way that I can see to get in there and test because the engine compartment is so tight.

anyone have any ideas?

Welcome.....If your car started at all for $500 then you got a good deal. As for trying to figure stuff out, welcome to Supra's. LOL They are well worth the work to get them going. :biglaugh:

now that I got the new starter in and it works, it still won't start. I have spark, but no fuel... I pulled the return line off of the j tube and tried starting again, but no gas ever came out. I figured if there were fuel pressure, then there would be fuel coming out of the J tube returning to the tank.

woohoo!!!! it runs like a champ!!!
Turns out the fuel guage was off because the float got stuck, and in reality there wasn't any gas left in the tank! So I figure they guys at the tow yard must have ran it out of gas, and then kept on cranking on it untill the starter died, and then couldn't figure it out, so they sold it. lol. They were convinced that it was the stock alarm ignition cutoff.
