im sure others have done this because the older trim rusts, but i have searched high and low and cannot find any details on the swap. for those that have done this, what problems did you run into and what did you do about the back tail light area? other than that did everything line up ok?
I would like to keep my old lights and just get some new gaskets for them if possilble.
any suggestions, ideas would be great, a full rightup in the faq section would be awesome. there is so much good stuff in there, and i think that if someone has done the swap and has pics, it would help alot of people out, especially myself.
thanks,
Ryan

It is plug and play. Doesnt look the best unless you also swap your tails for 89+ ones. As you can see I'm too cheap to pay the $300 people want for their 89+ tails.

does the back center trim come off the 88's under the license plate? did the 89+trim line up ok underneath the 86-88 taillights?
if possible i was thinking of finding a center panel from an 89+ and hacking the bottom trim part off it and try to use it. do you think thats possible?
has anyone else done this?

also will the trim line up ok in the front with an older bumper instead of swaping 89+ like you have? can i use my old blinkers/side marker lights?

Let's go Pens!!
It is plug and play. There is a slight difference in the clips, but it's minor. When I painted my car, I ordered all new clips and new rubber inserts, and they are a little different, but they work fine. I painted my molding, and also painted the molding strip on the bottom of the license plate/tail-light piece. I think it looks ok. My 88 molding was rusting badly, and warped, and in fact was going to start making the body rust if I didn't do something about it. I also had to replace the mudguards. 86.5, 87, and 88 all had the metal trim piece on them too, just like the molding.
