So my friend Brian and I decided to test out where I was standing with the 57 trim @ 16psi.

First, the cars:

Brian's - 2000 Chevrolet Camaro SS
LS1 motor, stock, 80k miles on it.
LS6 intake
3400rpm stall converter
HP Tuners (still tuning, though it is better than stock, lol)
SLP CAI
SLP exhaust

John's (mine) - 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo
7MGTE, stock, 212k miles on it (fresh Felpro gasket + ARP head studs)
57trim CT26
3" elbow
3" exhaust, no cat, with a freaking Flowstopper (aka Flowmaster) muffler
2.5" hardpipes
Aaron's bigger Spearco replica
MAFT-Pro, tuned to 11.6-11.8 AFR @ WOT
16psi

Results:
We decided to do two runs, both from a roll.

First - 30 mph roll, as we figured this would be his 'sweet spot' with the tq converter + the fact my damn a340 hates to downshift. He honks 3 times, we nail it, and he immediately pulls on me. Puts about 2-3 buses on me. Run to 135mph - from 100-135mph, he stops pulling on me.

Second - 50mph roll - better spot for me, as the tranny WILL downshift from this point! He honks three times, we nail it - instaspool! He still pulls ever so slowly on me, and from 50-125mph, he puts about 1.5 cars on me.

His last run at G'ville raceway was a 12.7@106mph, on a 1.8x 60'

Ok, so not doing so bad, right? He noticed I was blowing some smoke under deceleration, I chalk it up to needing a catch can (stock PCV routing currently). I get to Advance in G'ville (off University/Waldo) and what do I notice? Blowby! Also, not pulling my usual 23" of vacuum @ idle (now about 18"), as well as a weird 12.9-13.2 AFR @ idle. 0.0v Vf, from a normal 2.5v Vf , with a sweeping 14.5-16.5 AFR @ idle :3d_frown: Letting her cool off now, so I can go check the compression + spark plugs, and see if I can figure out what happened :) Good thing I have the next week off!

Haha!

Compression tests are in!

#1 - 151psi
#2 - 155psi
#3 - 135psi
#4 - 160psi
#5 - 119psi
#6 - 115psi

No BHG here from my tests - the center valley has about 1/8" of oil in it, the valve cover gaskets let go.

Squirted some 10w30 oil into #3-5-6
3 went up to 181psi
5 went up to 150psi
6 went up to 153psi

Seems 212k miles + 16psi = bad idea ;) Nevermind the fact that I have no idea how old the stock injectors in there are, or if they've ever been cleaned/flowtested. I knew better, but my mouth wrote a check that my ass couldn't cash :D

So tomorrow, I'll clean the engine back up, slap her back together, and head to Ocala on Monday. I *might* have the hookup on a 25k mile complete JDM 7MGTE for somewhere under $900 there ;) The motor looks *pristine*

If I go that route, I'll rip the head off, check all the tolerances, maybe slap new rings in just to be safe - Head to TMS in O-town, and pick up a 1.4mm MHG to go on, instead of my FelPro.

The bright side is, it will be a *hell* of a lot easier doing my 5 speed swap now :D

I have a similar motor, 200+k miles, it is tired now. It still works fine though. I just have retired it to stock duty.

This is proof for the newbies out there that racing with a old motor is a bad idea.

Hopefully you get it refreshed soon and come out for a re-match :) Let me know if you need anything.

This race was actually the day after the INTMO meet :) Just messing with a buddy's LS1 - he's got some denial that an import can be fast (not really, we just rib each other over it)

935, feel free to shoot me a call :)
