My supra's in the shop right now for inspection and emissions and my mechanic mentioned that i have some sort of exhaust leak. I dont have any more info about it because i didnt really get to talk to him being that it was Christmas eve and so forth but im thinking that if the problem is even mildly significant i may just replace the entire exhaust system. i dont really know what im looking for-ive looked at different mk3 exhausts online but i dont really know what im looking for...

i have an 88 non-turbo, i plan on doing a 7mgte swap and building it up in the future. in a few years id like to get up to around 450hp or so.

anyway does anyone have any suggestions or places to begin looking to learn more about this...

i dont have have an unlimited budget either.
thanks.

It would probably help if you told us just how limited your budget is rather than saying "It's not unlimited"...

Anyway, Depending on how soon you plan to go Turbo, getting a 2.5/3 inch. Will arguably cost you a bit of power/Torques (notice how I said arguably guys, let's not turn this into another "How big is too big" NA exhaust thread :icon_razz) and sound unbelievably loud, but if you're only a few weeks off of the 7MGTE swap, I reckon it's a sacrifice worth taking.

Personally I'd look into having a custom system made up by a fabricator, works out far cheaper that a off the shelf solution (at least over here).

Good Luck :).

It would also help if you posted in the correct section...moved to 7M-GE Tech.

Per above, an exhaust for the turbo motor is not going to perform well on a N/A engine.

I run a 2.5 in exhaust on my NA and it performs just fine. That might not be enough for your power goals however.

DonS1mpson: That is a great sig.

thanks for the info guys. i meant that i would probably like to spend less than 500 or so. sorry about the ge/gte mixup. i probably wont be doing an engine swap until it gets warmer out...so like 4 months probably.

4 mos. is awhile and then it will take a few weeks for the swap unless you have EVERYTHING you need for it, then it might take a little less... but if you put on the 3" exhuast it could cause some power loss but I would just go for it if 4 mos. max is your time to start the swap, no sense in spending $500+ now and then again for a new one once the swap... However you could just buy some aluminum piping and take it to an exhuast shop and have them weld you one.... cost me like $150 for the pipe and the muffler and I welded them at home with a torch. many options for you.

Keep in mind though that not all 3" exhausts are truley 3"... the muffler outlet usually is around 2.75...

thanks ill look into that. im hoping that i can get the leak patched up pretty easily cuz i dont want to have to deal with a decent power reduction for the next few months...

A 3" exhaust on an n/a is going to be unbelievably loud, and the drone will drown out your radio.

There's a few excellent exhaust threads here, if you search around a bit. Quite a bit of good information, from headers to mufflers, and everything in between :)
