First and foremost, allow me to apologize for anything stupid I say or do. I just bought my first supra about 6 months ago, this is my first swap and I'm only 17(bad mixture). Everything I've done up to this point has been thanks to this forum and the haynes manual. (warning this post is very long)
My 87 N/A 5speed(yellow plugs) got tboned by an suv. I bought another supra with a hole in the block(89 Turbo automatic, gray plugs) to drop my motor in. I pulled the motor and tranny out all in one piece, detaching as little as possible from the motor to make it as easy as possible. I chose not to switch the chassis harness.
I've already pulled out and put in the motor. No trouble there for the most part (except installing the clutch and brake pedals huge pain in the ass). All but one plug (I believe it was the abs plug) plugged into the ecu/harness even though the plugs are different colors.
My first time starting it up and was very weak and died quickly. Realizing that the 89 had been sitting, I switched the gas tank over from the N/A and installed a new fuel filter. I got it to the point where I could start it up every time and it sounded very good. It would die in a few seconds by itself or if you stepped on the gas. Being the noob that I am, I put a ratchet on the fender and it fell on the battery and made a big spark.. After that I had NO power to the car whatsoever. After checking all the fuses, I started to panic because none were blown. I quickly changed all the relays from the 89 to the 87, not even looking to see if they were the same or not. Still nothing. I called it a day and decided to go home and study(havent had a real night of sleep in days).
After researching on the forums, I found out it was the Fusible Link that connected to the battery and now have power again. The car started up and died(as usual). Assuming it was the timing, the timing was checked and set back to stock(I believe it was advanced a bit before I got it). Now the car cranks but won't start. It sounds like it wants to. I'm getting spark and I smell fuel. My spark plugs are fairly new(about 4 months old) and I have an extra set of brand new ones just in case. I also forgot to switch back all of the relays, I noticed that the numbering are different from 87(3-4-1-2) to 89(2-1-4-3). I'm planning on going back to work on my car(its at a friends who is letting me use his two car garage) in the morning.
Now for the main part. After the timing was set, there was no start at all. Before when the timing was advanced it would start but not stay running. I'm thinking the AFM and circuit open relay are the problem here. I just purchased a multimeter and am trying to learn how to use it properly. If anyone can give me any tips on anything it would be greatly appreciated.
p.s The battery is still good and has been recharged. Good ol Optima :naughty:
ps again, checked codes and got nothing. grounds are good.
