Ok i have a 87 supra had 7m-ge motor it blew i got a 89 jdm motor 7m-gte!! It came with gray harness (my car has yellow) i pluged it up all it did when tried to start was make like a shrot brief click noise(one time for every time you turn key over) what would cause that? I also had the dumb ass mach hook my battery term up backwards it sparked and cut my alt jumper wire in the fuse box loose but fixed that and it still just makes that click noise 2nd my jdm motor has a blown head gasket i was going to put the fel-pro perma dry head gasket and arp head bolts in when replaced. It obviously had a blown head gasket when shipped. what else do i need to know about these problems and what do you all think will it eventually run and how do i make it run? Oh i recently bought a 87 7m-gte yellow harness and ecu. PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I GO NUTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

Um for one... why are you trying to start the engine with a blown head gasket?

How do you know it has a blown head gasket? Mixed coolant and oil in the pan?

If it was me I would be contacting whoever I bought the motor off and trying to get my money back or exchanging it for one that doesn't have a blown head gasket.

Yes there is antifreeze in the oil pan mixed with oil and i havent even started it my oil cooler came in and we drained the oil out to put the oil cooler on and it was full oil antifreeze and the company i bought motor from is paying to fix head gasket per lawyer and 4 months in court so know before you buy a jdm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need more help about the wiring stuff then about the gasket

But you are still trying to start the engine with moisture inside the oil pan, chances are pretty good you will get rod knock if you do this. If this BHG'd JDM engine doesn't already have it.

As for the wiring, check all the grounds, take your battery somewhere else to be tested, and go over your connections for everything in the starting system... could be a number of things even a faulty starter... Start with the battery.

bearings are cheap.... It's the machine cost and the labor that's expensive... If your not able to rebuild a motor yourself.

If I spun a bearing here is what I would do:

1. Tear the motor apart
2. Machine the block and head to the correct RA spec for a metal headgasket
3. Rebuild the head
4. Rebuild the bottom end (machine crank, new rods & pistons as necessary)
5. Seal it up with ARP hardware, ARP head studs and a metal head gasket that is the correct thickness for however much material was removed in machining...

Now you've got yourself a built motor that will handle whatever you throw at it....

Basically you have got a full bottom end rebuild on your hands. It's not necessary to do everything I mentioned, but if you want to make any power down the road may as well do it now.

I am really just waiting for my stock head gasket (motor was rebuilt last year), and I will be doing everything listed above, along with forged pistons.

Just my .02

I'm done hijacking your thread... I'll let somebody else chime in now.

Usually a single click means that your starter contacts are bad. If you are mechanically inclined you can change them yourself. I'm not sure where you would be able to get them, but they are really cheap compared to a new starter. I would tear the starter apart and check those first.

I bought a JDM and it arrived with major head damage due to being run low on oil. I sent it back and they sent me a second one. The second one arrived with a BHG. I found it when I pulled off the head. I sent it back as well. The thrid one arrived in MUCH better condition than the first two; but, was NOT drop in worthy. It is being rebuilt.

I said all that to say this: SEND IT BACK...SEND IT BACK...SEND IT BACK!!! :icon_bigg

Get an engine in fair condition and go from there.

that loud single click is probably the starter hitting the flywheel, put a torque wrench on the crank bolt and make sure the motor isnt locked up first. I would do this before I went any further considering it had water in the bottomend.

I can get part #'s for you for the contacts, no problem. Just need to see a pic of the old ones. Around $10 each kit (2 required)

The starter contacts aren't that bad, actually. It's just a chunk of copper that a solenoid plunges into. Mine was eaten away where the solenoid would have contacted it. It's a simple part, you could probably just use a bit of copper pipe, though that's not really cheap these days...

Before doing anything major I would check all the fuses in both boxes.Had a no start problem and it was a fuse by the drivers kick panel....Later Barry
