7M's willingness to rev?

This is something that's crossed my mind lately. The Supra loves to go fast, no doubt about that. But how safe is it to bring it up high in the revs? Am I doing any harm to it by letting the automatic shift close to redline?

I ask this because the 4A-GE in the MR2s is perfectly happy bouncing off the rev limiter, so I'm in the habit of winding my engine out. But the 7M-GTE is much heavier and robust, so it's making me concerned.

How careful should I be when bringing the 7M up in the revs?

Sorry for my n00bish questions.

I come from a land down under
It will hard limit around the 7000 rpm mark so if the motor is in good condition it's not a problem, most 7M have sacked out valve springs so will float the valves much earlier and get asthmatic before they reach the hard limit.

I was just thinking the same thing! I usually hate revving it but last night I tore the tires loose at the top of first gear and it instantly plowed into the rev limiter.

iirc on my stock ct 26 boost dropped off at 5000 on the dyno. so that's about where I shift at the track. I think I hit peak torque at like....3400??? haha

well engines wear out its not safe to say it wont harm your engine... but it will just not last that much longer...

dont rev and drop it into gear either, do it about 5 times and say goodbye to your tranny

a good thing i like to think about is... 80% of your engine wear comes from 20% of driving... so the harder you push the more it will wear

On mine the engine is basically stock with forged pistons, and on the dyno the horsepower was still climbing until about 7250 rpm with the gt4082 turbo and the standalone. It just barely started to drop off at 7500 rpm. I don't see any reason to rev a 7M much higher then that unless you have some good headwork done to it along with all the other supporting mods. Now on the new destroked 7m I'm building I have an opportunity to get a brand new set of cams custom ground to my specs, made by a well known company. I don't want to spend a lot of money on the head other then the cams though. So we'll see where that goes, it's all up in the air right now.

I don't plan on ever pushing it in to the red, it's getting it to the red that I am worried about.

And I do not ever drop automatics in gear while reving the engine. That would be suicide.
