Definately has Turbo-A parts on it. 3000 pipe and intake manifold are both Turbo-A... and it looks like it has the "A" mark on the turbo. I don't see the wiring for the AFM coming off the harness where it should be either.

The A has nothing to do with it. I have had stock turbos with the A. The later CT26's moved the pick up for the wastegate actuator, but that is all I can think of that is different.

It seems like on Dean Marcum's old site the oiling system was different, which is why we have that extra port on the block, and that is what they used on that model. That is a standard GTE oil system.

Only difference in the oiling system was the location of the cooler (behind the Turbo-A duct as the usual spot is taken up by a larger intercooler). Also, the place where the turbo is marked is not cast in, it's a stamping in a raised section in the pictures and it's untouched on normal CT's (see cast in raised circular section in pic (borrowed from a for sale thread))

No Turbo A motors ever had a FFIM, not factory im 110% sure of that.

Thats miner...we are talking about the engine not the car. The body of the car is a different story or even the engine acessories like the FFIM. I'm not saying u r wrong, but the engine itself is pretty much the same.

I thought i already said that the long blocks were identical.

It's a nice rarity if you're going to stay stock, 270 hp with no mods, sounds nice, but a basic BPU will surpass it..

plus they also have HG issues, a 7m is a 7m..

Total waste of time and money buying one of these things if you don't have a genuine Turbo A car to put it in.... :nono: why pay a premium for 20 year old technology that's been surpassed 5x over the years...

The only difference between the regular 7MGTE & Spec-A's are all electroncs my friends. Don't be fooled..some Spec-As also have the intake manifold looking like the 1JZGTE or 2JZGTE. Meaning there is no center pipe with the 3000 numbers across, instead there is a void in the valve cover and the coil pack is placed there instead. Some Crestias, Cresscidas and Supra have them. If I find a pic, i'll post what i mean.

I thought the turbo was slightly bigger as was the throttle body? Or is that for the Group A motor referenced earlier?

turbo is slightly bigger and the throttle body is 65mm as opposed to 60mm

The intercooler was larger as well.

yes but, when i got my jdm 7m I payed $1100 shipped just for the motor and a half cut harness so i would say think about $1800 shipped for motor tranny and uncut harness is a good deal but that's just me.

Put that way yes but to get a chubby and pay extra just because it's a Turbo A engine is foolish, there were minimal differences none of which haven't been eclipsed by modern technology, if you were restoring a Turbo A car and wanted it to be correct then again Yes.

Here's an example, I paid MORE than you paid for your engine and cut harness just for a Group A Magnesium Pan, no I don't own a Group A but there is nothing available even today that compared technology wise as apart from the capacity and internal Oil control benefits it adds a lot of stiffness to the bottom of the block.

I'm not against paying a premium for rare parts IF they serve a purpose, I don't "get" the rare car prices, here there's a special edition homologation Ford Falcon that was about 5K when new, today a good example will pull 800+k, to me it's "just a Falcon" you could build a better performing car for 1/10 that price..

/agree IJ. i was just thinking that i would be a good idea if i ever wanted to restore back to original. but as u say, useless otherwise.

Although it doesn't appear as if the advertiser realizes that its a turbo a engine. I think its just overpriced... actually no its not..... r154 is getting rareish

I can remember exactly but I know they were built in either Sept. or Oct. of 1988. So to us Americans that would make them early 89's.
