i have looked around to see what the benefits and negatives there are to using a front facing intake manifold. it looks to me like you would loose a little bottomend because of the short runners. but i was more looking for solid dyno proof of what it does to the power and torque numbers. something like a stock vs ffim comparison.

Most people usually upgrade more than just the ffim when doing that. You have shorter ic pipes and generally a bigger and better ic which means less pressure drop and better efficiency and more hp.

Also sethron makes long runner as well as mid and short ffim.

I don't have before and after dynos, but my car made 320rwhp with stock turbo and injectors, and I think a big part of that was the FFIM and shorter pipes. torque was around 360ft-lbs, dyno graphs are in my build thread, link in my sig

I come from a land down under
I mucked around with runner length, plenum volumes in about 7 different FFIM's I built, never noticed any power gains it just moved the band around and changed how the Turbo "Hit" when it came on..

Never ran a stock Intake so can't comment on on the differences there.

hey enraged. what are you using for your throttle cable? im thinking of running my throttle body upside down to make it a little cleaner looking

IJ. thanks too! i figured that the turbo would make up for the loss if there was any. i just wanted to know if it would hurt more than help

It's probably not one of the first things I'd invest money on for quick HP. It's not cost effective IMO I'd consider it after like I got all my other parts that's in my must list..

it is cost effective if you are planning on a stock fitament intercooler, stock replacement hardpipes, etc. you can make the manifold as cheap or as expensive as you want. you can reuse the stock throttle body to keep costs down, but you will need some sort of fuel tuning.

initial tuning on my car, stock CT26, stock injectors:

thats honestly the reason why i wanted to d the ffim! but my boss was all like.. your going to loose bottomened and.. and its gonna be hard to make bla bla blahh! its easier to make than most of the stuff we do at work. i think he just doesnt want to help me kill my daily lol

Soon as the ct starts spooling you'll never know tue difference.

Since your making your own you could even cut off the top off the stock manifold and weld on a 3in or so pipe and keep the long runners.

But no matter what your going to have faster response and less pressure drop just from the ffim and less piping.

Your intake wont be Pre heated anymore by the exhaust and the short ic piping, increased throttle response and easy access to ignition... most common and my fav Pros.. cons are like you need to relocate the alt and can loose ac if you do a crazy ffim

That has nothing to do with front facing.

Might try not taking his comment out of context...

It does indicate though that gains from just FFIM are going to be hard to measure, since it will mean that you upgrade more than just the one thing. The only way that you'll be able to find gains from JUST a FFIM are if someone uses the same IC, same size IC pipes and same TB. That will eliminate some of the length and bends in the IC piping, but leave the rest of the variables the same, leaving just the FFIM and shorter, more direct IC piping.
