Hey guys tried to search but didn't come up with anything so please don't flame me. I have a 89 Turbo Supra which originally came with an automatic transmission i swapped which i then did a swap to the R154 gearbox but i'm still runing on the automatic ecu. I just wanted to know if there are any differences between the Manual ECU and the Automatic ECU and are they interchangable?

There is no difference in power. There is info that is sent between the trans comp and engine Ecu that manual ones do not have.

Switching to a manual Ecu is not going to get you more power.

The idle speed control program is very different between the two. For example, depending on the neutral safety switch input, the idle timing will change as well as the target idle speeds. There are many variants of A/T ECUs, but the one with p/n 89661-14460 has the last version of the control software.

No guys no issues was just wondering since i friend told me that the running the a/t ecu i'm redlinging much earlier than the manual but i'm like no cause i'm the one in control of that seeing that my car is converted to manual. So i just wanted to ask.

The main difference, as stated earlier, is idle speed management. Auto engine is also tuned slightly different to account for keeping RPMs while shifting (unlike a manual where you temporarily decouple the engine and trans while shifting). There is no redline difference as far as i'm aware, unless Toyota set the limiter on post 89 cars to match the 6250 redline on the 7M crank engines, but i'm not sure about that. Maybe someone can chime in?

That's interesting, never knew the ISCV program was different between the A/T and M/T. Would the A/T ecu on a M/T make it idle higher or lower? Or would the lack of neutral safety switch input change it?

It will idle lower by design. The fluid coupling of the torque converter allows it. And it needs to so it doesn't roll on the unsuspecting.

So, I put a 7mgte auto engine (ecu, harness and everything) into a 85 pickup. Anyone know what I will need to do so that it will run right?
