7mge vs 7mgte fuel vapor canister

I have a 7mgte swap cressida with a 7mge fuel vapor canister straight from the throttle body without BVSV, is there difference between the two? When I'm cruisin on the freeway I get some what strong oder of fuel coming from the engine bay, and only smell it when the windows are down.

also is it normal for white bluish smoke to come out during deceleration after boosting in 5th gear? could it be the fact that I have a 2in wide downpipe :3d_frown: (sorry budget) behind the turbo?

I dunno about the vapor (charcoal?) canister, hopefully someone else can chime in on that.

Bluey white smoke is a pretty good sign of oil burning up in the combustion chamber. Usually smoke on decel is a sign of valve guide seals going, but it could also be piston rings. A dry/wet compression test would give you more insight to that.

When you have a turbo car the charcoal canister has to have a check valve on it for some reason. I'm no expert but I would say it's because you are dealing with higher pressures then you would deal with in a n/a car. You wouldn't have to get a whole new canister just a check valve installed in the correct spot. That would probably be the bvsv. Sorry I don't know enough to explain it but I know that much.

All charcoal canisters are the same.

Smoke on decel after boost could be the turbo going out.

True. Didn't see him specify after boost, so I didn't think of that. I was just thinking under heavy vacuum, though to think of it decel in 5th shouldn't be super hard vacuum either.

you need to use the bvsv or atleast a 1 way vac valve on it. why your smelling gas is underboost your pressureizing the system, and its venting back thru the tank, and its not sucking like it should. but as far as the charcoal can goes, there the same for pretty much every toyota, with obvious size differences.

sounds like turbo is on its way out, though 2.25 inch pipe is stock on the gte supras,

Thanks for the info guys, I'll sure to get that bvsv in.
actually my little downpipe is 2in diameter, I bought a dowpipe from a friend because i needed the odd ball flange for the elbow originally the catalytic convertor was there but replace with this annoying flex pipe I'll be saving up for a divorce downpipe recirculated I know its holding back a lot of potential

Also another question there this round piece that I found in the manifold before the rebuild, someone told me that is to keep boost from leaking from the idle control valve is that correct?

Your dp disgusts me and the isc is nasty.

I know I'm a shame of it, but I blame the exhaust guy for trying to charge me 300+ to that fix that, where as I can get a DDP for 200, also that isn't the manifold I used on the engine, the one I have on there is in much better condition than the shown
