For me personally... I can have a fully built 7mge, get my suspension done, brakes, and tires for the cost of doing a turbo swap and making sure the turbo maintenance are good so I don't have a blown head gasket down the road and stuff.
I already have a Niisan 240sx that I plan on swapping out the stock motor with a turbo so I don't really need two turbo cars. And I have Kawasaki ZX10R and Honda CBR600RR so I can already go fast.. Just want to restore this Toyota Supra to it's original state but a little bit better.
The 7m-Ge is a good motor. Just requires some minor changes. The parts are common and pretty cheap(depends, not always the case). Any JDM motor should be rebuilt and clearances checked.
The 7m-Ge's have served me well and get better gas mileage than all of my past vehicles. They are pretty fun, not the fastest things on the block.
On the Nissan note. Are you planning on going with the sr20 motor? Be careful on who you buy them from. The SR motors IMO are wore slam out. Plus they're popular and expensive. I've helped with and watched 3 swaps. One motor spun a bearing. The other had a loose timing chain, which turned into no oil pressure, then spun a bearing. The third has a loose timing chain, but is still running strong.
Replace oil pump, and timing chain(also the chain guides)
Interference motor+loose/wore timing chain=failure in the quickness.
You can always 1J(or 2j if you got the bucks) your Nissan, but to some people that is considered sacrilegious! ;] Though, More power for the buck.
