Quarks?
Lol. For quirks, there's not too many, just a couple of strong suggestions.
Retorque your head gasket to ~72 ft-lbs.
Run a 1/2 qt extra oil, and always check oil level at the beginning of the day.
Keep your coolant system in top condition/ topped off, and use only toyota red coolant.

Do these three things, and it'll be a long time before you ever have any issues with the 7mge.

As for upgrades, the only things that would slightly help, would be a quality intake and exhaust.
But we're only talking 5+hp.

...A Toyota dealer? And don't pour any sort of organic, acid based coolant like Dexcool in a 7M. Just use Toyota Red--it works best in those engines.

I use Valvoline Zerex G-05. Its basically the same as Toyota Red, and it is cheaper. A lot of very knowledgeable people here run it also. Just make sure you flush out whatever coolant is in it now so it doesn't mix with the new coolant and turn to mud.

There is a little rubber stopper on a heater pipe at the back of the engine on the passenger side. You probably want to replace this after flushing the system just to be safe. (Its only like $4 from Toyota) Mine broke the day after I flushed my cooling system. Luckily I noticed it when it was only a pin sized hole, or it could have been a lot worse.

You will probably also have to replace the valve cover seals, the spark plug valley cover (its a gasket too), and the distributor O-ring at some point in time also to stop oil leaks.

There is a thread here somewhere that goes in depth about maintenance on our Supras. Ill see if I can find the link.

Thanks, my core is still in the mail. Had to learn the painful lesson of ordering parts for an 87 instead of an 86 cause i have an 86.5. So obviously the 86 core didnt fit the heater box

rarely. Mine was original and died about 3 years back. I paid someone over 1000.00 to replace it.. lol. I was going to tackle it myself.. in the end, Im glad I didn't. There are some that can do it quickly, but its the very last thing to remove when you take apart the entire dash and it scared me nicely. : )

Make sure you replace the O-rings as well even if they dont need it. (cheap in parts, but hella expensive to do later on)

Doubt you will have to do it twice.

Lets just keep it simple and say that if you pu a 1/2 qt extra in the motor, you'll find the oil level is just above the full mark on the dipstick. This is all really just a precaution against starving the oil pickup tube during hard cornering or acceleration.

Generally.. not needed for normal driving conditions.. just if you like those nice hard pulls... lol. Its a precaution more than anything. Normally excess oil can be just as damaging as lack of oil, apparently we have a little extra room.. :)
