Hey just a random question popped up, I think i know that the 7mge and 7mgte fan blades are interchangeable, but what is the overall difference if i use the 10 blade gte one on my 7mge, besides looks, does it have better cooling?

Is it?? My engine came with a GE fan (no idea about fan clutch) so i went ahead & bought a fan shroud & GTE fan from a SM member. Well the car would over heat when i just got it & the temp gauge would work fine, it would go to H. After the rebuild the car's temperature gauge goes 3 slashes above the C & stays there. So i changed the sensor & no change, i tried changing the Thermostats & it did heat up a bit more but it went down & stayed the same, then i changed to a GTE fan & same, i changed the temp gauge itself from the cluster & its the same. IT NEVER goes to the middle or above. I guess the engine stays cool very well? NOt good for 1 degree Fahrenheit weather..

I hope nobody misunderstood my question, since i know somebody selling me the 7MGTE fan blade for a good deal, i wanted to use my GE fan clutch, will that work without any issues like height, thickness, etc?

I believe you are supposed to switch to the GTE clutch if you switch fan blades. Though I'm fairly certain either will bolt on fine, the NA clutch is not robust enough to properly drive the GTE fan which has more resistance to turning. If you are trying to improve your cooling you should swap to the GTE clutch, I have even heard of people using a Tacoma clutch or something like that which is even stiffer. GE clutch has a green hub while GTE clutch has a brown hub, in case anyone wasn't sure which one they had.

no, it won't drive the 10 blade fan properly....

Though the autoparts store will tell you otherwise as they only have one part number for the fan clutch (and I swear it might actually be smaller than the N/A clutch) :nono:

Thats odd, i just checked Autozone for n/a and turbo and the fan clutch did have the same part numbers. I know that the more blades there are the more resistance there will be in turning especially when its running, And i assume it may do damage to the fan clutch or have accelerated wear correct?

I come from a land down under
It'll slip and overheat the Silicone fluid, slipping means it's NOT cooling as well as it should......

Drop the $ for a genuine GTE clutch either used or new, aftermarket ones are cheap/dodgy/small with no cooling fins.

Odd... my fan clutch Hub is green & i took off the GE fan & put in the GTE fan & installed the fan shroud on. NO RUBS or clearance problems & DEFINITELY no cooling problems. o_O ill take pictures

It's Winter there.... :nono:

Indeed but before 20 degrees hit, it was 70 to 80 degrees & i drove it like i stole it & blew the turbo's cooling hose, It literally split in two, almost as if someone slashed it & i lost a gallon of coolant & the temperature gauge rose to half & i of course got that fixed fast. I was in fact hoping that switching to a GTE fan would make the car heat up a bit more but it doesn't pass from the 3 lines on the Temperature gauge. At first when i changed the fan it heated up a bit more but it got quickly put down. I even have a lower temp thermostat & nothing. Idk whats up with this engine, it just stays COOL... :dunno:

I DO NOT WANT TO MISGUIDE YOU. Go with what IJ says. My engine is a cool one so the fan clutch thing doesn't affect it. Unless your engine stays cool all the time as well & especially now during winter it won't heat up.

The clutch is smaller not the fan. Shrouds are the same.

Made the mistake of installing 10 blade on n/a clutch. Worked for about a week. The blade is heavier and over loads the clutch. Does NOT work.

How does it fail? What i mean is how is the experience? ive never had a car with fan clutch & this is my first. Engine would overheat correct?

Fan clutch locks and anything past 3.5-4k belt squeals. You hear it. Fan always stays spinning so no over heating.

Only time you would over heat from bad fan is stop and go slow traffic or really hot weather. Once you get moving airflow is enough.

Odd i have the N/A Fan clutch with the 10 blade fan on it (i posted pics on this thread). Been running for a month or more now. Maybe the fan clutch isn't from a 7M but from a truck's?
