Alright guys i got a question. Ive heard from some people including my manager that when you warm up your car int he morning its fine to just let it sit there for 5 mi nutes and then drive it. Ive also heard that you shoulding let it sit there and idle because idling is the worst wear and tear on the engine. these people tell me to start your car up right away and drive it. but dont drive it normally..just driv eit very slowly around 2k rpms and let it warm up to OP temp and then after about 5 minutes you can drive it normally. What do you guys think??

Let it warm up 5 mintues then drive? or drive it immediately just conservatively till warmed up?

its best to drive your car at opt temps. i.e. let your car warm up idleing till its fully wam and then drive it. that way all the metal has has expanded you oil is at opt temp and the coolant is warm.

Yes i understand it is best to drive it at opt temp. but the point some people made was that when the car idles for warmup its really bad for the engine and it causes alot of engine wear and tear. they said its better to warm up your car by driving it immediately but not driving it on the street just like in your neighborhood before you leave to wherever it is you are going. just cruising at 2k RMP in 1st or second gear going about 10MPH. really slow but as long as your car is moving, they said it gets to OPT temp faster and doesnt cause all the wear and tear that warmup idle in place does. i just dunno which is safest cuz i have people telling me both things

Idling promotes more wear.

Start up, fiddle with things in car (seatbelt, stereo station, ect), check oil pressure (good pressure?), then drive away. Drive nice until it warms up. Once warm do what you wish.

According to the owners manual, you want to start driving as soon as you have proper oil pressure. It says nothing about letting it sit and idle until it's fully up to operating temperature.

Drive slowly at first until your temperature comes up. Usually before I get out of my neighborhood(25mph limit) I'm up to correct temperature. If you live on a main street or something just take it easy keeping the rpm low.

Thank you poodles and iwannadie. thats the kinda answers i was looking for. so basically letting it sit there is bad. so start car..put on seatbelt...find right song on ipod..then go slow. Btw what is the "correct" oil pressure. mines is broken...im getting it fixed on friday.

Thanks!

Should have also explained the reasoning behind this. If you idle until the engine is warmed up, only the engine is warm. The tranny, diff, tires, ect aren't up to temp yet.
