Hey,

I have searched and couldnt find the answer i was looking for so just one quick question..

Take a standard 7mgte supra and a standard 1jz supra mod for mod which one is going to make more power and be cheaper to get power out of?

I just got a 1990 7mgte supra (auto) and its not very fast at all (got beaten on the way home by a turbo mazda demio!) i have already got a 1jzgte and all the bits i need to do the conversion but after reading some "7m vs 1jz" discussions its beginning to seem as though im wasting my time witht the conversion?

(Really just hoping someone will tell me my 1jz will be a lot quiker than the auto 7m i have now!)

mod for mod 1j

Dollar for Dollar 7m

i disagree with that....

awhile ago...

theres a 1j here that did 317 with 3inch exhaust, intake, cams, and afc

and my supra did 292 with 3inch exhaust intake and afc and thats about it for power adders... i mean you can count my BLOWN 60-1 that i boosted to 7psi with if you want i guess...

so the 7m is making up SERIOUS ground with less power adding mods...

you do the math....

but here we go again...1j vs 7m.... :3d_frown:

317/afc….LOL…I had to lift my feet of the ground, cuz the shits are over flowing.

7m- Over temp, BHG, Rod knock etc. If you’re lucky to find one that had not gone 100x of bhg, which causes the block to weaken and soft, I’ll be amaze. JDM are no Stallion at Japan either.

1j- Plug and Play period.

ok? that was my car. I dont get what isn't understandable about that. its pretty normal. And they are stock 2j cams undialed, i would have been pissed if i spent 800 bucks on cams and was only able to throw down that power.

If you just have a motor and tranny for the 1j swap you will have to source out MANY other parts and it will probably cost you 1500 more to complete it correcly and get it running. Personally i perfer the 1j for a few reason. I can make 600+hp without building the motor, I beat the shit out of it and haven't had one problem I didn't cause, and it's high reving. If you are asking this question you probably should just keep the 7m for now.

To get a 7m into the same power potential as a 1j you would be spending much more money than a cost of a 1j to do it properly.

1j- Plug and Play period

i'd like to see plug n play LOL

1jz had 50hp head start. .5L less and impressive for the power output considering it's specs

7m 50hp behind but if we were to start out same hp levels we make bout the same power mod for mod

cliffnotes

1j only 2.5L 280hp = impressive
7m $ for $ = impressive (after you fix or do the hg before it blows) damn toyota *shakes fist*
if both had the same power from the start.. mod for mod... they make same improvements.. again impressive due to less CC

but i'm biased and 7M POWAH all the way !!!!

alrite

in before lock! :p

:withstupi, like supra girl says "7m POWAH all the way" haha, but seriously the 7M is a great motor as soon as you fix all of toyota's mistakes, and easy to work on.

The reason I prefer the 7M is parts availability. Some 2JZ stuff swaps over but you can't get everything stateside. You could be stuck with no ride, waiting for a ship to get to the US from Japan. The 1JZ is cool if your supra is a toy but I wouldn't put one in a daily driver.

Oh, my bad. I didn’t know that we’re going to be debating how we use our terminology at this topic. I’ll try to be more careful how I use my wording. But feel free to correct me any time IJ. Wow, I hope that’s not the only reason you think of way to rod knock. Perhaps some people here try to mislead the others of thinking they can make tons of power with the 7m utilizing the use of bigger Turbo with out using high performance after market parts to rebuild the engine from top to bottom. I wonder why IJ is taking time and money to rebuild his 7m. How much money do you think Duane spent already just to make 600 HP. If you weren’t owning your own business you would not be able to do exactly what Duane and IJ have done to their cars. I can assure that 1j can put out that much power with out rebuilding the engine. Just learn more about Mike Urbanos 1j history and it has been done many times over at Japan with various types of mods to make 500-600 HP. Fix all 7m Toyotas mistakes? Well they did, 1jzgte was the answer for what 7m are lack of and goes on to VVTI to 2jzgte. Simple engineering method. To correct the engine after engine and a new generation is made. Just like your PC. Toy, well that’s what the rich people use when they describe their awesome looking car. =P

On another note: Everybody: SHUT-UP, SHUT-UP, JUST SHUT-UP ALREADY ABOUT THIS 1J VS. 7M CRAP - SHUT-UP!

Tell me about it. It's like the Celica boards(3S vs 5S vs 7A vs 4A) and B18 vs H22 bs.

It depends what your looking for too me there just about even

7m- ALot easyer and cheaper too find parts for but must be babied

1j-not as easy too find parts and a shit load more expensive when they do break
