really?

Somehow with the comment you made about shitty mechanics where you live, i can see why you "THINK" that ;)

BTW my car ran fine up to 120,000 miles before I swapped the HG. Not because it blew but because I knew I was going to crank to boost knob up.
Thbbbt mine went to 138k then I changed the HG for the same reason. ;)

As was said before, one is .5 liters less and needs to be swapped in.
The other has a bad rap for the BHG and is already in the car.

Totally your decision.

well then why don't we just stroke a 1J and drop the two snails for one big one....now THERE's an idea!

Im sure you've figured by now that you wont get a straight answer. As its been stated, its been covered a million times. I'd join the popcorn munchers on their deck chairs but i hate pop corn and i bet the beer they have is'nt Coopers Sparkling Ale so i wont be stopping by, just leaving a big blacky from my 7M powered Supra. (Who ever came up with a beer that tastes as bad as Budweiser should be shot!)
If money is no option, go the 1 or 2 jz, they are great engines with endless potential. If your a tight ass like myself, build a 7m. Head torque is the only problem with 7ms which is hardley a problem if you'r rebuilding. and a heap easier.
Now back to the beer...... I heard an American recently bought the Coopers company, is this true? If so, i wonder if America will get the strong stuff?? The 5.8 good stuff, or will they water it down with the same terrible stuff they produce American beer with? Being Australian and having travelled through America i've had more than enough of Americas terrible beer to have an opinion. America, WAKE UP! Your beer is the WORST!!

uhm I drink coopers regularly here and didn't notice a diffrence. If you drink a billboard beer, your not gonna get much more than water. It'd be like me comparing hahn to stella. <pops down on the lawnchair and cracks open a shiner>

Well i have been doing my research i just thought i might get some opinions from owners. I will be rebuilding and going mostly aftermarket. Goal will be right around 600hp or so. More of a long term build, want a good solid motor that i can not worry about blowing apart if i need a few more psi. Thanks

figgie: I don't really think that... but just like I said, *from what I've read* (some of it, even in these forums!), one could actually conclude that.. =)

I think I will go with a 7M anyways :)

Hey Joe this topic would be perfect for my Oil challenge!

Here are the rules:
Two supras(one with a 1JZ and one with a 7M) get a fresh oil change. So the 7M uses the oil of choice, wile I use 0W 50 in my 200,000 mile 1JZ. Now the 7M could be lower in mileage, tape both hoods shut, and the oil cap seal with some type of tamper prof tape or seal. Both cars have to be driven daily and the oil can't be top off. The time limit to do an oil change is 5,000 miles, so from the time of the oil change till 5,000 miles the oil cant be checked or top off, so at the end of the challenge the engine with the oil level that has not changed wins! So who is up to it?

PS: This is a joke so dont take it up the butt!

Im sure it will get hot, but im just kidding. I used to get all into these arguments, but I now just add alittle fuel to the fire.

To stay on topic, they are both good engines, Pick the one that you know you would be happy with and dont look back.

Some common 1jz problems are:

turbos exploding
ecu's going bad
fan control melting
ignition coils failing
ignitors failing
hydrofan sticking on high or off
crank pulley falling off
valve seals leaking (higher milage)
injectors sticking
water pump leaking

Some common 7m problems are:

bhg
rod knock
tps sticking
exhaust studs stripping
turbo burning oil
ic pipes cracking
wire harness breaking
accordian hose cracking and possibly damaging turbo
coolant and vacuum hoses cracking
fuel pump relay failing

They are both engines with their share of issues. 7m's are obviously older and have more problems related to that. 1jz internals are more stout with a much better designed head and headgasket. With preventative maintenance both can be reliable. What the 1jz will cost up front, the 7m will cost over time in replacement parts and machine work. Pick your poison. What they have in common is they will both put a big smile on your face when they are running like they should!

Both engines have problems when not taken care of. I hope we don't go over this crap again.
I drive mine harder than most and my car performs when I need it to. Just look at the last challenge from SCC ;) 7M period for me. Build it right and it will stay together no matter what engine.

Any questions about reliability, hp, oil consumption?? (not here) email me or I will answer them here. 7M is number one in my book and over the 2J as well. Now what! Huh? What? :naughty:
