Hi guys so i plan on doing a 7MGTE swap in my supra soon. Right now the car is 7MGE Auto.

I plan on doing a complete swap Motor and tranny.

I am just looking from some advice and maybe some things to look out for also wondering whats the best way to go about this and whats the avg. cost for parts that ill need.

Anything you can tell me would be great!

The car i am doing it in is a 1987 Supra

Also what is a good reliable place to look for the parts i need where should i look for the motor i am open for anything i was plaing on finding a used one but not a %100 sure on what to look for as far as quality

search SM, or even google.

I know this was just a place that i was going to use as a personal reference so if i run into a problem while i was doing doing it i could just ask from here in case i couldnt find it.

I have done tons of research and will do alot more but there are always things i might not know.

The 7M-GE section is the place for NA-Turbo swap threads. Thread moved.

Read the stickies in this section.

It's easy and all plug n play. Your GE auto will work fine if you plan on staying stock. Your biggest issue will be sourcing a good wiring harness if you don't get one with the gte. You'll need a harness from a pre 89 car. You best bet would be to find one and then send it off and have it rebuilt. There is a member here who rebuilds harnesses.
I turbo'd my 86.5. You can read all about it in my "What in the Hell...." thread in my sig. I'll be happy to answer any questions you can't find the answers to searching, just pm me.

honestly, i would find a BHG'd motor and at the very least do felpro HG w/ ARP studs. machining block and head, and MHG would be the better route to go, but if the surfaces are straight, the felpro should hole for a while with the ARP's at the proper torque.

it mite take a lil while to find one, but rebuildable motors can be as cheap as $400, or as much as $800.

or you could find a turbo parts car with the motor, and use everything on there for the swap and part everything else out. thats what i did, besides having a parts car makes it much easier, and saves a lot of trips to the auto parts store.

good luck with your build!

Ok, first rule of 7M's.

Assume all used 7M's have a BHG or rod knock. Where ever you get one, rebuild it, unless you know it's rebuilt by someone who knew what they were doing.

My engine HAD to be rebuilt, and it needed boring, new pistons, a cylinder sleeved, and I had the head rebuilt and all the machining done. Having all that done cost me around $2K. It all depends on what your engine will need, but you better budget around $2500...at least... to get the swap done.

Oh, and this is good advice too and would help save some money.
