I've been trying to sort all this stuff out and there is one post you need to read abour 4 times over. Go to 7MGE tech section> STICKY> NA-T

you can also search 4cefed on google.

That will show you everything you need to know. If you still can't understand it, then ask specifics here, but most everything is covered well in that article. Gives you a shopping list and everything.

Please no one post all the info for him. ;) It's already well documented.

There will be some minor wiring things you'll need to deal with. The plugs from the door, a/c, the uh... interior lights(? that wire under the oh shit handle)... that's all I can think of for right now. I myself would na-t or get a pre-89 gte motor, just for ease.

You should have no problem using your current 86.5 motor mounts on the newer engine.

To make wiring easier, you may end up needing to buy/trade the newer harness, ECU & related engine sensors for pre '89 harness, ECU & sensors. Other than that, the swap should be relatively painless if you follow the well documented write-ups on this forum.

so basically i just need the pre 89 ecu and harness right sounds simply i guess i know they changed some plugs but that was in 89 right? The transition year or somthin where they had new and old plugs. So pre 89 and 89+ are basically the same? if so then shouldnt be to hard.

Eh, no. He won't have to mess around with the body harnesses at all. Only the engine harness.

Ugh. NO! '87-88 are the same, treat '89 as it's own year, and '90-92 are the same. READ over on www.4cefed.com. It's ALL there! :nono:

Sorry, I was referring to the differences between pre89, 89, and post 89. Not that he had to go about doing such a thing. It's more of a hassle to match up the stuff between the years, though not impossible.
