Alright everyone I just took paart a '89 7M-Gte. The motor was perfect. Only the two end main caps had wear on the bearings. The crank has no issues. and the pistons came out with easy.

my question is, sense everything looked great, can I buy a new bearing set pistons, and use a " I think its called ball hone " and just put my cross hatching in and put new rings pistons bearing in throw it together with a stock Hg* and run it?

Or do I need machine anything? The head was great too. I would like to know your thoughts. Everything seemed great to me when i check everything, should I go ahead and do clearances?

thats my plan with my haggard build except i'm using a mhg, new bearings, and rings. yet i'm not expecting it to go 100k. it should keep me entertained over this spring and summer. then i might fully build my motor thats in my car right with forged rods, pistons, the whole deal because it hasn't been bored out .050 already.

bare minimum i would go with a MHG and some ARP head studs.
then at least hone the block, deck it, and make sure its all cleaned and straight, with NO cracks anywhere.

the head i would get decked so its 100% flat across it, then get a valve job to make sure everything will continue to seal up. and im sure your shims need some bigger ones or smaller ones...

but you should be ok with the hone and re-ring the pistons, just make sure the crank is ok and it doesnt have any odd sized rod journals or main journals.

Yeah anyone think I should plastigue the crank?

I just want to make sure I am not screwing anything up...

I may have the head redone too, I think stock valves would be fine.
