7m-gte blow off valve question

i have an 89 7m-gte intalled in a 85 model toyota pickup. The motor runs great and has great power. But i am noticeing some oil seeping out of the blow off valve after 10-20 miles of driving. Its not a whole lot of oil, but after a day or two of driving it builds up pretty good.

I just want to know if this is normal, or if i should be looking for this turbo to crap on me. The oil level on the dipstick has not went down, and it does not burn any oil(no smoke). And again it runs great.

Now im not sure if these motors came stock with a blow off, but this is a customized 7m-gte, so its not quite stock as far as the way it was put together. Thought id throw that out there to prevent any confusion. THanks.

it sounds like the oil seal in ur turbo is blown out if you undo the pipes to ur intercooler and see if there is oil in the pipes or if ur exhuast is darker then normal i would def. say the turbo id keep a good eye on ur oil pressure and fix it asap

Its normal for a turbo car to accumulate some oil inside the charge pipes, I would start being worried if you notice an unreasonable amount of oil disappearing quickly.

Oil that is in the Intercooler pipes is normal.. because the PCV system is routed * before your turbo, and then your turbo charges that air + oil residue into the pipes, now.. If a bearing seal has gone out on you... then you will charge even more oil through those pipes.. and the BOV is in that route and is very likely to collect the oil you are seeing. Take your lower IC pipe off the bottom of your turbo, and take off the pcv hose too and turn your engine on for like 15 minutes see if oil drops are on the ground, then you'll see if your turbo has to be replaced.

I saw most everything already said to be true, didn't read it all. Oil is normal in the intercooler pipes as stated above.

Get a swivel ratchet and undo the elbow on the rear of the turbo and look for oil. I beleive your seals are blown also. I had this happen to my CT26(Not sure if you have stock turbo) anyway the stock turbo was weird sometimes mine wouldn't leak much if any and then sometimes I would smell oil burning in my exhaust.

Anyway I'd be getting a rebuild done or purchase a new turbo.

Please no comments but I would throw the idea out there of running 1/2 to 3/4 over filled in oil. I know many other members here that did this as well. Some even when their turbo seals were fine. I did this when my turbo seals were bad, until I replaced the turbo.

I bet your pickup is quick.

its 4wd.

Dang thats bad news. The previous owner said this turbo is rebuilt and has about 2000 miles on it. The blow off says turbonetics on it. I really have no idea about anything on these motors. I really just wanted the truck, but i thought with the turbo motor it would be that much better.

Ive been watching the oil dipstick closely and it hasnt went down any at all. Ill take the pipeing loose on the turbo and check it out.

Another thing, here latley ive been driving it alot different. Instead of releasing the gas peddle suddenly for a shift, i will just ease off... so the blow off wouldnt release so hard. And after a day or two of driving it like that, there is hardly ANY oil in the blow off. Maybe some film of oil, thats it.

Anyway ill start checking it out the best i can since im clueless on this motor. Thanks alot for the help.

Theres another thing i forgot to throw out there. The oil pressure gauge is stock toyota. It doesnt read much oil pressure at all after it warms up. Not sure the exact amount. The previous owner said that these motors do not run much oil pressure. The oil pressure does register on the gauge even at idle, but it doesnt rise very much at 3000rpm.

I run my 7m a full quart over what is recomended. zero issues and added protection from Daknock...

Also see if any smoke is coming out of the tailpipe. If you are burning any appreciable amount of oil (from bad turbo seals) there will be blueish smoke coming out the back.

Re: your oil pressure. How many miles on the motor and what oil type/weight are you running? Do you trust your oil gauge? I know I've seen very little oil pressure at idle, and even lower after the engine oil is getting ready for a change. So if you dont trust your oil pressure gauge, maybe get an aftermarket one and see. Oil pressure is less at idle than on boost, when oil is older than when it's new, and thinner oil weight/grade is less pressure.

I was worried when I first got my 7mgte as well. Pressure looks low at idle. Take a look at the TSRM. Low pressure at idle on the 7mgte is normal. I believe I read somewhere that the lubrication on the 7mgte was a volume system design vs a high pressure.
