oil pan should be different and then you run into mounting that trans as well. Not to mention your PRAYING its in good condtion(if its not, you just wasted a LOT of time and cash). Cooling fans change from one car to the next too. Lots of little things that have been convered in the "other motor" section

Lol true. I guess I was thinking that because I heard that toyota made a ma70 chassis and a ma71 chassis and put the turbo powertrain in some of the n/a chassis because they were similar enough (btw is there any truth to that?).

Nope, the chassis is the same for both, the "MA70" or "MA71" is VIN number changes.

Anyways I thought- hoped that the difference in the transmissions was minimal enough (considering the two labled the same) when I replaced the auto tranny in my 91 supra with one from a cressida. That was a while back though, and now I know better, thanks!

Changes are minimal enough to get away with it, but for how long is the question.

The main killer of an auto tranny is heat. Getting a proper cooler for the fluid goes a LONG way.

I'm loving the 400 but currently it's matched together with the 4.30 and it revs a bit too much on the highway right now. Fast as hell from a dig though. Looking to swap out the 4.30 for the 3.90 but still keeping both. Also you can buy the tranny for a good price but it gets very expensive in the end after you buy a converter, shifter, speedo cable(still looking for one to match up to stock guage), adaptors, driveshaft, cooler, etc, etc. and it will run you well over 3 grand as well.

Yea i was looking into it a bit. I would rather put it into a ae30 and build it. I think a $250 trans and a 1500 rebuild and some cooling componites should be nice for what im looking for. Im only looking for about 300 right now. Just trying to find a trnas that is in good shape to run stock for now

No. There is no MA71 model. 1 is the series in the VIN indicating turbo model.

No such thing...buying an imported motor is a crap shoot...even more so with the 7m. The 7m has two major issues that 99% of all 7m's suffer is bhg and rodknock! Buying jdm 7m engines is retarded in my opinion as there are many usdm 7m's posted for sale on this forum for a fraction of the price! No matter what motor you get, if it's used and original, you'll still need to do a headgasket or even a rebuild:-(

or you can build the motor you got....

totally agree. Pull the stocker and send it to suprarich or dm for a quality rebuild. Local shops can be hit or miss so choose carefully!
