the rear end will hold the power. Unless ur launcing the car on the strip with slicks on and alot of power then ill need a diff upgarde. But which rear end are you ragarding? the non turbo sport 4.30 lsd rear end or the regulat non turbo open rear end?

well i think if i recall correctly the non turbo sport package had tems and headlight washers and its way to identify it by the vin. But the fun way is to get in the car do a standstill burnout. if both tires spin then it has a lsd, if you only see one tire mark then its open. Both can handle the power, its not gonna break or anything but when taking off from a stop or racing through a corner, a lsd comes in handy. If its not a lsd, i have a spare turbo 3.73 lsd, shoot me a om if your interested.

alright, them when i brake torque there are 2 marks. its not open, thanks for everything.
No problem, ur not off the hook yet tho. Was it standing still or you started rolling? Sometimes non lsd rear ends have lsd characteristics randomly. One last test is when u jack up the rear off the car and spin a tire. If the other tire spins in the same direction then you have a lsd. If it spins in the opposite direction then you don't. When do you plan on dropping that 1j in? got anyparts for it yet?

LSDs are usually labeled on the rear of the housing.... actually, I don't recall ever seeing one that wasn't.

There are also codes on the chassis tag that indicates which the car came with from the factory. I don't remember the codes though, but if you search you can find it posted on here.

The LSD was available as a package independent upgrade.

if you canf idn out if you have the sprots package form the facotry im pretty sure you have a 4.11 LSD. But the whole 1j not producing torque to me isnt all that true. ask Slow_sc3 about his buddys twisted rear end lol. but the rear diffs should eb able to handle it as stated unless you will be running down the track. If so look at a set of either 3.73 LSD's or 3.90

The MA70's came with a 4.30:1 open diff and the 4.30:1 was available as an option (or with certain packages). The 4.10:1 (pretty sure it's 4.10... could be 4.11) wasn't offered in any 7M equipped MKIII and it's not nearly as robust. I can't recall what it came with though.

The 4.30:1 LSD is just as robust as those which came standard with turbo powered MKIII's.
