Alright guys, simple question I promise. what size bolts are needed for the tranny holes so I can get this motor on my engine stand? I cant use my existing bolts because they are on my ge motor right now which is in my car still :( I went to Lowes and got some M10 x 1.25 and they don't thread in there right.

Thanks!

You also need to take thread type (coarse or fine) into account, as well as metric or standard.. not just the size and head type.. Wouldn't the TSRM somewhere show this info?

The thread type is the 1.25 part of what the M10 x 1.25 the OP posted. ;)

Fine and coarse thread is for english threads. Metric actually uses numbers to quantify how fine the thread is right in the title.

So if I have m10 x 1.25 they should work right? These are metric ones that I bought from Lowes, now the grade of bolt determines the weight it can hold as I read from the post that buckshotglass found. Would my threads be messed up perhaps? :( I'm hoping not

They could be cover in greese.
Do none of the bolts go in any of the holes?
Are they the same size as the tranny bolts?

Try threading them in on the other side of the block just to make sure.

Be very careful of buying bolts from bins at Lowes !
They get mixed up by customers, and low wage emplyes.
Take a known nut of bolt with you to check
You may have accidentally got 3/8-24 , or who knows.........

There was a guy selling 7M engine stand bolts on eBay, you might look there.

By the way, 10x1.25 is the correct thread,
I am supprised that lowes would even have them,
because most hardware people only carry the standard 10x1.5.

This probably wont be much help but if you by chance have a DSM you can use the 4 bolts that mount the turbo to the manifold...I dont know what the size or pitch is.

Yeah I am going to recheck these bolts if not return them and go to a more specialized place and see if I can hunt them down. The bolts were in baggies also but I'm now thinking its my threads in the block might have gunk or something

Ya, my stand works fine with the tranny bolts. Granted the bolts don't go in more than an inch or just over, but it seems more than enough to do the job without risking damage to the block.
