Yeah I just wasn't seeing how water would flow from the back of the head to the thermostat housing through said pipe if it could just as easily flow through the head into the thermostat housing, but it makes sense to me now.3p141592654;1956580 said:Your right, I did mix up the quotes. The purpose was always clear though, since you need to ensure flow doesn't stagnate at the rear of the block/head.
There was a member on another forum that had removed the entire coolant line assembly from the engine and plugged both ports at the back of the head, and that's what made me curious in the first place. I was trying to figure out what side effects blocking the port to the thermostat housing would cause, and now I see it could cause localized hot areas at the back of the head/block.
