Why push 14 year old coils to 28 psi? Why bring up 12,000 rpm and who said anything about 14 years old on the coil packs? Again I made a statement about possible benefits of running a single coil on plug set up and this is when you jumped in and started off with the fact that you hated to break it to me about 7m coils and their dwell time. Thus impliing some kind of 7m coil supremcy since you didn't mention any other coil. I never asked nor cared if you told me anything especially since it had no relevance to this thread, kind of like this whole pissing match.

pointless and off topic

you want to continue this convo. pm me. I am done here

sequential fire coil packs have a shorter primary and secondary coil winding length right? and we know that sequential coil packs have longer dwell times, as figgie noted. they clearly take longer to reach full saturation before they are able to fire at full current/voltage. If you fire them before they reach their saturation point, you have a weaker spark. If you are trying to fire them twice as often at a 7000rpm w/ 30psi, its highly likely that youll have spark blow out. however, an ignition amplifier like a DLI, will improve this situation. since, putting 16-18v on the primary winding of the coil should help the secondary winding saturate faster.

On a waste fire setup, you ideally want coil packs engineered for use with a waste fire ignition... either 7M, FC oil VVTi coil packs. ive ordered a set of the latter and will be installing them on my 7M. i picked them up for the same price as 1j/2j non-vvti coils and have alleviated the need for the use of a DLI w/ these sequential fire coil packs. when i get my car up and running, ill let you alls know how the VVti coil packs work out. im expecting it to be a big success and again, revolutionizing the mk3 world ;)

Ideally you would want CDI ignition like a MSD DIS-4 for huge hp goals. My 1j coil setup should be good to the same hp and boost levels as a 1jz or 2jz stock ignition system. The missfire I was experiencing was due to cracked coils, not because of the ignitors. I'm putting the 1jz coils back on, and now I have a big enough turbo to really test them with. I will dyno it soon. This really is more of a upgrade for asthetics though, because as already stated earlier the 7m coil pack is plenty good for a 7m with anything but 600+ whp, probably higher.

good to know aaron. i have a sneaking suspicion that you wont be able to go much higher than 20psi or so on sequential coils on a waste fire setup.

when we put AEM's on the MKIV's, we have to switch to spark plugs w/ lower resistance and up the input voltage on the primary side... (IE: Denso iridium IK24's and HKS DLI). this seems to be the only way to really keep the jz coil packs and avoid ignition problems under high boost and high power.

i cant wait to see how your results turn out. ive got my coil packs coming in the mail...i dont think im going to post much info about it untill i install them and try them out. but i have a feeling my new coil packs will be the ideal option.
