i have a few questions..

first, i bought a new Toyota oil pump ,and am doing a fresh ,somewhat stock, rebuild. with a turbo and supporting mods to make a little less than 500whp,should i shim the pump or should i be fine on the stock oil pressure?

secon, i need to know what size headgasket to buy. they took 0.006" off the block-deck and the head has been re-surfaced once and just had a finishing cut put on it.everything is prepped for a MHG ,and i need to know how thick to go to keep the crank/cam distances as close to stock

thanks in advance.

What is somewhat stock?? Upgraded pistons I hope(stock compression)!! Not knowing what was removed from the head and not having it CC'd you would probably be fine with a 1.5mm. Hopefully one of the "experienced" engine builders will chime in!

ok so i just did some quick figures and came up with this.. the stock hg is 1.5mm which comes out to be 0.059" and some change. knowing they took the .006" of the deck and assuming .010-.015" were removed from the head that puts the total thickness of the gasket to .074 or 1.87mm.. looks like the 2.0 might be my best bet. NOW to determine which brand to go with.. is the HK$ stopper worth the money ? im not gonna cheap out on it just looking for opinions

Hell yes the HKS stopper is worth every penny. If you don't believe me, ask Ian about some of his war stories about blowing his engine, but the stopper gasket holding. Make sure you don't want to open up the engine again. If you have everything set on the bottom and top end, you'll never have to worry about a BHG again with the stopper if you've prepped correctly.

Many have just gone with the bead type mhg and haven't had any problems. :dunno: It's only ~$200 cheaper...

I have read those post on the stopper, but I am going to try out the TMS 2mm on my build. I will only be running 18ps or so.. Hoping to be in the 400whp. I will however be upgrading to a GT35r at the first of next year.. and possibly full EMS. Good luck..

stopper is good and maybe too good if something goes wrong it probly wont blow use a cometic or titan (same gasket) but you must lap the head and block after resurfacing to ensure a good seal. Guy i work with at toyota is using a cometic on a 1300whp mustang and when he has a problem he blows the gasket not the motor

i went ahead and got the Titan 2.0. from the math it looks like it'll be the perfect size for what's been removed the the deck and head. gettin excited now.. car's been sitting for a year now and i have a pile of go-fast goodies that have never seen action yet :D
thanks for the input guys
