I actually think I might have found the problem. Theres a wire that attaches to the back of the alternator and has a small cylinder on it. I saw that was on my old, dead alternator and I put it on my new alternator I just have to put the alternator on the car tomorrow and we'll see then. I just don't know what that thing is.

I come from a land down under
Sounds like a Capacitor AM....

Can't see it being the issue though!

Time to go through all of the Fuses/fusible links and check to see if there's an open circuit anywhere.

Pity you don't have a known good unit to try in the car just to rule out that your new Alt may be DOA.

Well this is the 3rd alternator I've tried on the thing. First one I tried was a spare I had sitting around that I got off a junk car, the batt. and brake light didn't come on with that one. Second one was a brand new one from an auto parts store and the batt. and brake light came on with that one installed. And this one is a reman'd MR2 100amp alternator and the batt. and brake lights aren't on.

i've seen so many people replace their alternators, when all they actually need is to change out the brushes!

Write-up? Sounds simple enuff, but I've never gotten into an alternator ('cept when I let my son take one apart when he was 8 ;-)

I traced those wires from the alternator's power wire, the two thicker wires, and they all run into the fuse box to the big fuses. The 100amp, 60amp and 30amp. I already replaced the 100amp and have a 30amp and 60amp on the way. They didn't look blown but I got anyway just to make sure.
