There are few things more entertaining than watching someone show up with knife to a gunfight. When seasoned turbo rebuilding professionals are posting based upon years of experience, scientific data and testing, and you show up and post about a chainsaws, you really look like a fucking moron....

Best quote of 2008 to date.

MDC, what do you think of using an MR2 turbine housing?

If you could weldup the stock 7m manifold to be a true divided manifold to work with that housing, you might just have the fastest spooling 7m to date.

I kinda think its more effort than its worth, but thats what owning a supra is all about. Being innovative.

It was suggested to me by a local turbo builder (20+years) that the relibaility lies in changing to an MR2 housing since it is able to expel exhaust gasses faster via wastgate door (during shifts). He also said that the MR2 housing has the exact same deminsions as the supra housing, through a visual inspection I can say I have no problems believing him.

lol i can make 330+ on a tune and my stock CT at 12PSI.....

wait, what? i'm going to assume you mean crank HP, and NOT rwhp.

lol, yeah you're probably right not quite that much. In my defense i was pretty damn wasted when i posted that.

Anyway...i wouldn't be surprised if i saw that number in the 13-14psi range and a tune. Of course this is estimating from a race of a C5 so its not exactly accurate but at least i can get an idea of where im at. A stock ls1 throws down an average 300-310WHP, you add in some exhaust intake and ECU mods and take weight difference into consideration theres no way im putting down much less than him since we were pretty much dead even from a dig (im not sure how much of the difference in gearing changes things off hand)

Not really a bigger shaft, but a better thrust bearing assembly and oiling system for sure!

Should live, but then again you have a high flow wheel in a low flow compressor housing.

Well MDC what do you think of a 60-1 with an MR2 exhaust housing? When you mentioned welding the stock manifold you ment dividing the first three firing cylinders from the last three correct...i have a few books that contains some manifold building info ill check it out? Ialso have full access to UNOH's fab shop as that was the class i took last session, this could be a good deal!!!

60-1 in the ct26 compressor housing is going to die.

/of story.

Its not going to matter what exhaust housing you put on it.

I guess Im lucky (for the 1st time in my life) because Ive been running a 60-1 for about 5 years now at 10-20 psi. It was a daily for about 3.5 of those 5. I ran 10 psi for about a year, then 20 from there on out. I checked the shaft play just this past weekend and guess what, no shaft play whatsoever.

I have heard horror stories about 60-1's but I personally havent experienced it. But I would listen to the turbo expert if I were you.

Im no turbo expert but from the discusions that i have read about the ct26/60-1, 80% of the people are gonna tell u to go with the 57 trim. I personally have a ct26/60-1 on my car and made 350rwhp on 11psi . I had it rebuilt by majestic turbos of waco, tx 11 months ago and no signs of shaft play so far. If u want something that is not as big as the 60-1 or small as the 57trim a 60 trim falls righ in between them two but it is all up to you . There is a dyno of a 57 trim making aroung 420 rwhp with race gas and there is Jbl that made 455rwhp and 490ft/lbs or torque with a 60 trim ct and stock 440s. The cryo treatment should make the shaft stronger just like it does pistons and every other part that is cryo treated...

No one else caught this? :bsflag:

FWIW, I've got a 62-1. I have a little compressor surge, and I'm assuming it's been run this way the whole time it's been in use. It's been at 15PSI for at least a thousand miles, still no shaft play.

Quinn, its true.

What you're not told is - it was done on a 7mGE pistoned engine, not a GTE.
