well, its my birthday.. so i drove home from cleveland to louisville this weekend to install my turbo that finally came after i left for school.

i tested oil flow to the turbo today, and i am getting oil from the inlet port on the block. (YAY)

tomorrow im gonna mock up the rest of the turbo system, test oil out, and hopefully start my car! wish me luck!

Congrats on the car!

I think this thread should show everyone who reads it in it's entirety (like I just did), that there is no better customer service than what you will get with Aaron at Driftmotion! I've seen it time and time again, and experienced it personally in the form of advise before the purchase. He had the patience to handle my ignorant ass!

Also....Jon (aka MDC Motorsports) is one hell of a knowledgeable guy. I wish everyone here could spend an hour talking with him as I did at CHI2K7. No Jon, I wouldn't wish that on you, but I wish everyone here could have that experience. I take a personal interest EVERY time I see someone challenge you.

Zambini......One thing stayed prevalent in my mind as I read through this. What would a water pipe have to do with your turbo not getting oil?????? Maybe someone can explain that one. I know your turbo never died before the upgrade, but the oiling issue never seemed to get discussed here. Now the car is running good? Maybe you should be careful until you hear an answer to this.

I don't necessarily agree with the way you brought it public before contacting Aaron again. But the way you handled the thread was respectable. The info and pictures stated your case well.

i know man.. :/

i wish there were something more obvious in the oil department.. but i went about the long, extraneous process of mocking everything up 3 times with different things unhooked to make sure oil was making its way through my turbo system successfully, and it is. plus, as i've said, the issue was never oil before.

this is completely theoretical:

the housing was mismanufactured in one way, why wouldnt it be in another? perhaps there was flash or some other defect in the housing not allowing proper oil flow.. i will never know. fuck that turbo.

another theory:

coolant wasnt being delivered properly to the turbo and it was overheating the oil and bearings, resulting in their inherent deterioration.

could've been rebuilt wrong, yet COULD HAVE been particles in MY oil that killed it. i dont know. but this turbo seems to be working alright. sucks that now im back in cleveland so i cant drive or investigate again for a while.

i must also mention that the turbo that died was made from an aftermarket housing, and was not an official yota ct26... the housing i have NOW has evidence of existing for 20 years, where the metal has rusted or broken down and been media blasted, and now it is pitted.. this tells me that the turbo i have now actually came off of a supra.

either way, it was damn great to finally drive my car and feel it boost, park it, and discover a distinct absence of shaft play..

but as you said, the oiling issue has never been distinctly solved, and it worries me still...
