i know man.. :/
i wish there were something more obvious in the oil department.. but i went about the long, extraneous process of mocking everything up 3 times with different things unhooked to make sure oil was making its way through my turbo system successfully, and it is. plus, as i've said, the issue was never oil before.
this is completely theoretical:
the housing was mismanufactured in one way, why wouldnt it be in another? perhaps there was flash or some other defect in the housing not allowing proper oil flow.. i will never know. fuck that turbo.
another theory:
coolant wasnt being delivered properly to the turbo and it was overheating the oil and bearings, resulting in their inherent deterioration.
could've been rebuilt wrong, yet COULD HAVE been particles in MY oil that killed it. i dont know. but this turbo seems to be working alright. sucks that now im back in cleveland so i cant drive or investigate again for a while.
i must also mention that the turbo that died was made from an aftermarket housing, and was not an official yota ct26... the housing i have NOW has evidence of existing for 20 years, where the metal has rusted or broken down and been media blasted, and now it is pitted.. this tells me that the turbo i have now actually came off of a supra.
either way, it was damn great to finally drive my car and feel it boost, park it, and discover a distinct absence of shaft play..
but as you said, the oiling issue has never been distinctly solved, and it worries me still...
