Summit, Jegs, pretty much any online automotive retailer is going to carry SFI harnesses. You are not going to find them at AutoZone. (Unless you want some super cheap crap)

Oh and unless you require them, I dont recommend them.. Yea they might look cool but they are not for a daily driver. If you wear them loose you risk more injury.. A 5pt harness is properly tensioned when you can hardly pull yourelf away from the seat.

i agree with matt.

it really depends on how much you want to pay. g-force makes some nice ones at a decent price. or if you want big dog you can spring for some schroth.

also be advised the belts are only certified for 2yrs then need to be replaced.

If you don't have a cage don't run a harness. It is difficult to properly mount a harness with out a harness bar. Also, in the unlikely but still possible event of a roll over you will be in big trouble.
Read the rules for SCCA or NASA ( both have pretty much the same requirements ) and make sure that the harness you buy will pass tech and that your cage will as well. It would really suck to spend all that $$ and not be able to take your car to the track!

Harnesses give more advantages then safety. They hold you into your seat. You think your Supra can create some G's in a corner with you modded suspension and sporty tires? Try holding yourself center on your seat in a car with 315/35-18 Hoosier R6 tires and you'll find a harness is extremely helpful.

nothin. its either lap belts or harnesses. ive read that lap belts are designed to lean you to the side in the event of a rollover, and harnesses are designed to keep you tight. make sure to get a 5 point, anything less will allow you to slide under and out if its not tight, right into the dash and wheel.

look for some seatbelts on the BST section, i think you can find some.

Huh, no one mentioned basilar skull fractures. A harness will only kill you faster unless you are wearing a HANS device in the event of an impact.

Best of luck to ya!

Why is it illegal to have certain harnesses in a street car when they are safer than the run of the mill seat belts?

safer based on what facts?

A harness is part of a COMPLETE safety system. The key word being complete.

A harness does not do shit if you don't have a HANS device. Sure you body might not go anywhere but your neck will probably snap in an accident. hence the use of a HANS device. Have a harness and no rollcage? Hope that you don't roll over. You neck is not a very good roll cage.

figgie-

you are probably one of the few people that dont make fun of me for having a "racing seat" and factory belts. sure, i have a 5pt, but they are not in use til the 8pt goes in.

i dont know that i agree about the hans device tho. i do agree they rock, and surprisingly comfortable. but, how is using a 5pt useless compared to a stock belt in that regard? i dont see how it is any better or any worse.

lastly, scrothe now makes a harness system that is dot legal now. not that many will pony up what it costs tho.
