Arz: I think Porsche 928 blocks were nikasil'd stock but for the big bore kits I'm pretty sure they coat the pistons.

Waaaayyyyy back I remember a Nika BBC block I think it was made by Maclaren or one of the other big teams back then.

Dirgle: I'd guess a register in the head surface.

TKA: LMAO

looks like a competition engine (think F1)

many of the specs of the F1 engines are very top secret and we get trickle down from the technology.

I was thinking about the coating of the cylinders too, motorcycles use it, and I would think a racing team could afford it...

Yea thatas why I said for "automotive" use. Yea Snowmobiles, Jetskis, motorcycles, and quads have all used nikasil bores for over 10 years.

DC: Thanks for that :)

Would like to see the code involved.

When I first built my CNC it's meant to be a huge time saver as you hit "go" and wander off and do other things but it's quite memerising and I'd spend all my time watching it do it's thing........

maybe this will help you IJ on knowing the size of the machine...

"The machine in the video has a footprint of 5.2 metres in length & 2.7 metres in width. It also contains the largest working envelope capacity in its class for a 5 axis machine - H350 x 420mm
cheers "

so it's full size I'm assuming...

The size of the spindle really does make you perceive a much smaller machine.
Ian did you get to the exhibition building a few weeks ago? It was manufacturing week and there was a big expo with allot of companies offering demos of there machines, trying to sell stuff.
On another note, my mates dad owns a nikasil shop. Never really crossed my mind to use on a car, just motorcycles.

Tickets? It was free. The even had a whole section for the chinese. Their stuff can look really bad when its sitting next to some of the bigger companies.
