how long will brake cleaner hold the seal for a mhg?

NOT brake cleaner...brake quiet.

Unless you are gonna make some high HPs, I'd stick to the Ishino headgasket set. Its what Toyota factory uses. It been updated for better sealing.:icon_bigg

I got mine online for $154 shipped in one day.

Heres and slight update:

My buddy went and got me another quote. This time its signifgantly higher.$800 for total complete rebuild of the head including the 3degree valve job, head milling, and p&p.This is the "worst case" scenario price.Meaning that the head is slightly warped and they have to redo everything completly. All parts and labor included in the price minus the price of a mhg and arp's.That would kinda put me in a spot, i think i would be better off if its worst case scenario to find another head and drop it off, which could drop the price back down dramatically. Im on fall break oct 9-13, so ill be able to start immedialty the weekend of the 6th. My friend said it may take them a week to get it back to me depending on how busy they are, its quote"diesel season".

While i have your attention can somone tell me what a "valve job" is. They told me 3 degree, and ive read of others on here that have done 5degree.What purpose does it serve? Is there much to be gained from it?

louky - yeah. It's expensive. But hell, that's why the mk3's are money pits...

fotosoup - basically it is- because if the surfaces aren't basically perfect, they won't seal. That's why a lot of people use brake quiet or similar stuff on them- to fill in the imperfections in the metal.

If you use a new MHG, spray sealer will turn the factory coating into goo. If you go this route (don't have the block decked), you will need to remove the factory coating before using Brake Quiet.

Also keep in mind the RA spec (smoothness) has to be met for the MHG used....50 RA for a Cometic...30 RA for an HKS.

Personally...I say do it right the first time and get the block decked ;)
