I've brought this up a few times over the years... my first Toyota was a 1982 Celica with a 22R inline 4. Most of the same tech as the Supras of the day, minus the fuel injection. I drove that car to the limit, and retired it with 995k miles on the clock. Furthermore, I retired it because it was attacked by a moose on the freeway, not because it was worn out.
In just shy of a million miles on the thing, it went through ONE bottom end (oil filter failed, and bottom end seized) and two head rebuilds. And a set of ball joints. And that's pretty much it.
