4 Cylinder Supra?

If you want to use a domestic manual tranny, use a t56. They're relatively cheap and after market parts for them are easy to come by since there are hundreds of thousands out there. The Camaro z28, Camaro SS, Firebird Formula, Trans Am, v8 Mustang, Corvette, and Dodge Viper all used these for like 8 years.

And don't listen to anyone who says they can only handle a few hundred horses... T56's are solid, trust me.

Ok so who makes them. I googled it and not finding much except to tell me they were used in a lot of different cars.

Well, it was Borg Warner originally I think, but now it's Tremic. I don't know if Tremic bought BW or what. It's been replaced by the T6060, which is bitchin, but expensive.

One little thing to note about these is that a Ford t56 is different from a Chevy t56. Kinda. They're the exact same design, and the parts are interchangable, but the parts were sourced from different places. I saw an article a while back about which parts were better from which manufacturer, but I couldn't find it when I googled it. It was called "Building a Better T56" (or something like that). Basically you take any given t56, and replace specific pieces with specific other pieces to get the strongest possible combination. It probably isn't worth the money though. These will handle 600hp + without issue. My buddy is pushing 800 rwhp in his z28 and he hasn't had any problems. The only mods he's done to the tranny that I know of is a clutch/flywheel set (I helped him build it, so I don't think I'm missing anything).

Right on. Also, the T5 domestic trans is BW/Tremec. Powerful cars run the T5. Clutch upgrades are necessary on almost all engine builds, so plan for it anyway.

if you're hunting for transmissions the non USDM altezza/IS200 used the 3SGE BEAMS motor, so you could use the trans out of the IS200 (6spd) J160, made by Getrag

Good find, and helpful. I have also run across toysports web site and sent out for some sage advice also hoping that the solution ca rest in a product they sell. The J160 or W58 seems that can work, but both have issues when lots of power is added as i've read. I'm leaning towards the T5 6 speed if i can find dimensions that would be great (i can't even find where to purchase one though). Hopefully I will hear back from ToySport in a few businss days and have some good news.

Engine is ordered and should be in, in about 4-7 business days. I can start the tear down and tunin on the engine while figure ot the proper transmission to do the job. And yes i'l start my build thread with te engine build up. ANd es, PLENTY OF PICS, and text wrie up for everything i do at every sage.

sorry yesturday i just had a things for dsm's, a friend of mine has one on a stock turbo ported and couple other dsm mods and after me and him goin back and forth supra against dsm, toyota vs Mitsubishi. I had to vent a little bit.

Yeah his car is going to be bad ass. If only more MKIV owners realized buying a MKIII shell saves them 15K .

idk, personally i come from the Lexus V8 world, so shoehorning a 1UZ into a mk3 is a favorable route, with a nice big roots/twin screw SC on top leading to low-end torquey goodness in a car that's a good bit lighter than the starting project...

then again, turbos (be them on a 7m, xJZ, or 3s series motor) do have their advantages....

I do remember Ford Mustang having a 4 cylinder Turbo, the Mustang SVO. And yes, the Camaro's also had a model with 4 banger.
