I've had quite a few 22r's but never a 22rte :aigo: Sounds like fun . They aren't big achievers just bulletproof and with 4wd's i've never needed much power just gearing thats why I said I knew about 22r's not about making power with them . Although an 85 with a 22rte does intrigue me ....hmmm 33's with a 4 " Procomp lift and ..... oooops i'm off track here . 1JZ powered 85 with a .... :icon_bigg

SO whats your opinions on a Blitz ecu or safc once my cams and 440's are in ? I need a user friendly setup that doesn't need constant attention to run good . An ecu with a tune for my setup sounds like the way to go but i'm curious what you guys would suggest ..

little vid of some of the fun along the way

that's really inspiring what you have done to your car. My very first car was 82 Celica GT with 22R. I loved that car to death until it was stolen from me. Wished I still have it cuz it would definitely get a 1JZ engine for sure. Great job man.

22R can't make power? Dave has a ct26 and Supra 440cc injectors on his 22rte in a 4runner, it makes a whole lot more power then an 22R!
You can get about 200whp out of them pretty easily, but I don't see many going past that. Compared to something like my 1JZ, that's not a lot of power :)

I had a friend who had a 22R in his MDR desert race truck that made 250hp (NA) and he reved it to 9500rpm!!!

We're going to put a Stinger on Dave's and see what it does at 16psi once it has an intercooler.

Sorry for hyjacking the thread though, 1JZ FTW!!!! :)

Thanks for the comments , it's a neverending money pit but it gives me such a rush to drive that I really can't see an end to this project . I just recieved my Leatherseats.com skins so it's really shaping up to be another busy winter in the garage :icon_bigg

I really liked all 7 22r's re's that i've had and can't say enough good things about that engine . Keep the TB guides in good shape and feed it oil on a regular basis and it will never let you down . I've never considered trying to make power with one as our terrian calls for crawling not screaming ( unfortunatly ) Pics Aaron sounds like a beast ??

both of my 22r's blew headgaskets pretty quick (one was turbo the other wasnt)... faster than my 7m's but they are considered the best engines ever :) and i still think they are

22Rs are unstoppable. I've seen them still run after throwing rods through the block. I've also never seen one that didn't leak oil :). Mine goes through like a litre a month, sometimes more. I never have to change the oil, it does it for me.

My 82 celica with 22r had 285k miles before it was stolen and it would probably go 300k+ if it wasn't. So that said a lot about that engine imo.
