I have a TRD 3 puck sprung clutch that I pulled out out of a 1jz-gte I just got; I am having it repucked and all that jazz; does anyone have one? What is its holding potential? how has yours performed? Did yours have a flywheel with it also?

I had the metal TRD three puck. I hated it and switched to a 6 puck ceramic. The metal clutch and lightened flywheel was very difficult to drive in traffic without either revving higher than I wanted (which amounted to almost a drag launch) or stalling, it didn't slip well at lower rpm and was digging into the flywheel. The 6 puck is much much better and has better holding capacity.
what was your power range? and the more pucks better drive ability, fewer pucks higher holding or so the clutch makers have all told me.
a clutchs holding capacity is more directly related to the PP than anything else, of course the disk matters to a high degree as well, that goes without saying. Another important fact is what the disk material is, kevlar, ceramic, iron, etc and whether its sprung or unsprung.
If you had the one with sintered iron then I'd imagine your car would be stupid hard for anyone to drive. A crazy single plate clutch like that is a thing of the past, twin and triple plates hold more while retaining characteristics that a single cant and theyre less likely to induce crankwalk.

Clutches hold abuse.
Going with something like a 3 puck is only reducing the friction area of the clutch. The only reason you would want this is if it was a material that works better at higher temperatures. I would highly suggest that if you want something to hold a lot of power, get a stronger PP, and a full-face clutch disk for drivability. If you want to abuse it at the track, get a full-faced, or 6/8 puck designed for moderate abuse.

it is going to be a going in a 2500lbs. car including driver; 500whp is the goal; currently has a 2200lbs. pressure plate I am repucking the clutch with cerametallic pucks.
