I am looking into building a 2jz for my supra. I currently have a 1jz running on a aem ems. The bearings are starting to go in the 1j and I decided instead of pulling it and fixing it I am going to buy a 2jzge long block and build it
I'm wondering the differences in the heads

1. Are there any different sensors in the ge head vs the gtte head? can I make the gtte sensors fit

2. Is the valve train the same between the two heads?(I am planning on hks 272 cams and +1mm oversize valves)

Thats about it. If you can think of anything else please let me know

Ge head doesn't have any cam sensors in the head and has a hole for the distributor. If you add the GTE sensors you can use GTE cams in the car (since dont need GE distributor gear anymore). Everything else (part wise) is the same.

The GE head flows a tad more then the GTE in stock form IIRC, and probably will when ported as well (mainly cause the exhaust ports arent grouped for the stock twins.) You will need a custom FFIM if you go GE head though.

So is it possible to plug the distributor hole and install cam sensors? Are they already machined into the head and plugged or what is required to install?
That is my main question, the ffim is no problem either, I own a fab shop so the manifolds will be made by me:naughty:

Yea you can plug the distributor hole. There is nothing for the cam sensors, you'll have to cut a hole and weld a flange or something in. Look on SF or something for more details.

I was thinking about doing that too but I wanted to be able to build and work on one motor and keep the other one in my car until its ready to swap.
Maybe I'll work on picking up a empty 1j head and a ge shortblock. I really need to look into the cps and see how hard it is to machine the head to work with it

It really would be much easier to find a good used 2JZ-GTE head to use instead of trying to modify the 2JZ-GE head to run GTE electronics, IMO of course. Getting the head modified for the cam position sensors and getting the proper air gap while still sealing for oil, and then plugging the dizzy hole, just to have to run custom manifolds because the intake and exhaust flanges are both different (I know you'll make these yourself, but still, might as well make them for a GTE).

It likely can be done, but I don't think it's really worth it.

But, good luck if you do attempt it.
