Your best bet would be to do some searching on how easy it is to do a 2j swap...

It all depends on how much $$$ you want to spend on the swap.

For me the choice was easy... A fully rebuilt 7m-gte was availible to me from a friend that had is car written off. Going 7m-ge to 7m-gte was a sinch..

1: Pull old Motor W/ harness and ecu
2: Install new motor
3: Plug in harness
4: Plug in Ecu

turn the key.

There were a few little things you need to deal with but nothing major like finding new motor mounts or different bell housings or anything liek that.. but I did have a few issues that came up, nothing bad tho. one was that I was using an auto harness with a manual ecu and tranny.. so had to jump the neutral safety switch.... and I also had to double check my grounds before it finally turned over. After that it was just setting the timing and I took it for a drive. And then a couple odds and ends to deal with, like finding boost leaks, diagnosing codes (ya code 52), and getting everything running right, but that is common with most swaps.

Oh.. and to prove how easy the 7m-ge to 7m-gte swap is... I did it in 3 nights (working from 6pm to 1am).. and I had never done a motor swap before and did most of the work myself, I had a buddy to help speed along some of the wrenching and to help muscle the motor in place but other than that it was me.

Going 2JZGE is what I plan to do if and when something major breaks my 7M-GE.

To answer your question yes, it would probably be more realiable than a 7M, and it does make slightly more power (220(ish)BHP compared with the 200BHP of the 7M-GE).

Initial swap costs seem high compared to another 7M, but it worked out cheaper to go 2JZGE with a turbo kit than building up a 7M, at least it did for me.

Good luck with what ever you choose though.

Ya I guess you are left with more uprade options as far as the 2j once it's in there....

But to me initial cost to get the motor in the car was what mattered.. I can save for as long as I want for go-fast mods once the motor is in the car.

chris717: Thanks, my car still has a long way to go to get it where I want it to be, but it's also my daily driver for now so it's doing ok. I got the steering wheel last year, I think I paid around $350 for it...

2JZGE uses the R154, or am I wrong? I'd say do it. If I had looked up more information on it before I did my 7M build in January I would have jumped all over it, 2J has a lot more aftermarket support.

edit: You may need the 1JZ bellhousing to mate the trans to it

the non-VVTi 2JZ-GE came in the NA MKIV Supra, the SC300, and the GS300...

there are differences such as mid-sump and rear-sump, and the MKIV 2JZ-GE's rated at 220 hp, while the GS/SC 2JZ has 225, due to their dual exhausts...

how so..?

I'm banned from there, so I couldn't check if i wanted to, hahah..
He wasn't sure. He got it that way. They basically put the 7M AFM on it, and used all of the 7M sensors.

To fit a 2JZ in your car, you need a 2JZ W58 bellhousing (or a 1JZ R154 bellhousing depending on which transmission you have). If you don't get one out of a Supra, you'll need a JZ rear sump oil pan. You'll need 1JZ motor mounts, and, if you have a pre 89, you'll need the BIC motor mount brackets.
