I searched this but no cigar, I was wondering if there was a difference between the 2 trannys, I have auto 1jzgte 88 supra and Im planning on doing a manual conversion. Its becoming hard to find a r-154 so I was thinking bout droping in a W58. Is one stronger than the other or are they the same?

Both suck in heavy cars!
could you elaborate please?

why does the W58 suck in heavy cars? the SC300 had it stock. (mind you, it was the stronger version of the W58)

WTF are you talking about? "stronger version"

the sc300 is a 2jzge....which is why it came with the w58....same with the mk4 na's sport the w58....as well as mkiii.....

All the turbo cars had r-154 or getrag 6spd.

Stronger version....please....the sc300 was no power house and my na mkiii will smoke an auto sc300!

Last....that's a matter of personal opinion.

It may get you threw a season, a week, 15 min, or for years...it's really hard to say.

Its just not the best idea.

R-154 isn't hard to find...just more expensive.

r-154 is stronger and will last longer obviously it had to deal with more stress in turbocharged cars save for a 154 it will be well worth it in the long run

the W58 was changed in '89, internally it was changed from an aluminum sandwich plate to a steel sandwich plate, which made it SLIGHTLY stronger than the older (pre '89) W58s.

when i said "stronger version" i was being specific in terms of an updated W58. not upgrading to an R154/V160/V161
